    1. Re: [MDCHARLE] Peter Montgomery Jr
    2. I meant to reply to this but time got away from me. Natalie Montgomery Baker of Washington, Indiana thoroughly researched the lineage of Peter Montgomery, and all of her research is on microfilm at the Family History Library of the LDS Church. She was descended from Joseph Montgomery. I concur with Shirley Moller that Peter Montgomery Jr most likely never married. No record has ever been found (to our knowledge) to indicate that Peter Jr married and had children. If there is any new information out there on Peter Jr, I hope whoever has it will share it. Especially if there are direct descendants. Bear in mind that of the 12 children born to Peter and Margaret Montgomery, there were 2 sets of twins, and Elisha (the first) b. 1743, died in 1766; Ignatius died in 1777 and apparently Anne Mary and James Henry died bef 1777. Peter Montgomery and first wife, Catherine ____ had six children. Here is the abstract of the will of Peter Montgomery, the Immigrant: Montgomery, Peter Charles Co. MD written 16 Jan 1752; probated 26 Dec 1754 To son Francis Montgomery, 1 sh. To son John Montgomery, 1 sh. To son Peter Montgomery, 56 acres To Joseph Montgomery, 56 acres To wife Margitt Montgomery the plantation I now dwell upon, 112 acres, and after her decease to son William Montgomery. To Dau Mary Magdilen Higdon and son Elisha Montomgery, all remaining parts of land. To son James Montgomery, 1 sh. To son Richard Montgomery, feather bed and covering, and cow. Wife, Margitt, extx. Wit: Edwd turner, Jacob Moreland, John Hunt. 29.307 Here is the will of Ignatius Montgomery b. 1746: Charles County, MD Wills, Admin Accts, Inventories and Orphan's Court Proceedings (Abstracts) 1777-1780 pg. 58 Ignatius Montgomery's Will. Written 7 Aug 1777; probated 13 Sept 1777. I, Ignatius Montgomery of Charles Co, MD, am sick and weak in body, but of sound and perfect memory. to my brother, Charles Montgomery - 50 acres of land, being part of a tract of land called Monmouth. To my brother, Benjamin Montgomery - 1 feather bed and furniture. To my brothers, Charles and Benjamin Montgomery, and my sister, Mary Montgomery - all my other effects, to be equally divided between them. Exec: my brother, Charles Montgomery. He is to pay off all my just debts. Signed 7 Aug 1777 Ignatius (+ his mark) Montgomery. Wit: Elizabeth Waters, William Waters, Edward Semmes. Probated 13 Sept 1777 by the oaths of witness Semmes. Here is some additional information from Bob Alvey, another researcher on this family: In Higdon Newsletter # 268, there are two interesting items on Margaret, the second wife of Peter Montgomery. This information was submitted and transcribed by a Rosemary Smith Dawood who lived in Chicago, IL at the time but who I understand currently lives in Scottsdale, AR She notes that Katherine Unknown, the first wife of Peter Montgomery died prior to 1737 and Peter married Margaret Unknown. Twelve children including two sets of twins were born to Peter and Margaret. On June 26, 1739, Susannah Montgomery was born, she married an Unknown Higdon and was living in 1773 at the time her mother, Margaret wrote her will. Bob Alvey Here is the text of the will of Margaret Montgomery: Will of Margaret Montgomery MD Probate Records, 1674-1774. Chas. Co. 10 Oct 1773, p. 20 Dec 1774 In the name of God Amen. Peter Jr. would have been about 21 when he married Margaret Unknown and started the large family. Hi Carl, I noticed you have gotten no response at all through or from the list regarding your question of Peter Jr and Margaret possibly being the parents to the children of Peter Montgomery Sr. and Margaret. Easily answered. In the will [see abstract below] of Margaret Montgomery she leaves to her son Joseph the land she bought of Peter Montgomery, Peter Montgomery is her step son. So no they were not married. I'm not even sure Peter Jr., got married. 3. Shirley, Do you know what is Natalie Montgomery Baker's source for the name Catherine. I've not come upon any name for any wife except Margaret.
