Would you, please, post for me the lineage you give to the two Mary Tants/Dants, the one who I have as married to John Manning and the d/o John Tant and Margaret Bloomfield and the one who I have as married to Thomas Combs, William Morgan, and William Griggs and the d/o John Tant. I think I have that right -- or I should say -- the way that Linda Reno has puzzled it out, and I think she did a great job of thinking on it. I have a wonderful soul who keeps encouraging me to change my database on RootsWeb with no reasoning given beyond his/her word. I'm perfectly well aware I have the Mills family thoroughly messed up, but I think I have the Tant/Dant family correct. I would surely appreciate any help given. Thank you, Norma

Hope some of this helps. I have Mary Tant, daughter of John Tant and Margaret Bloomfield was married once--to John Manning. Thomas Dant, the immigrant, was married to Mary Shercliffe. Others have said she was the wife of John Dent or Thomas Dent, but she wasn't. I have no maiden name for Mary who married first, William Morgan and second, William Griggs. I suspect, but can't prove at this point, that William Morgan was a brother of Edward Morgan. Mary was the third wife of this William Morgan. I'm showing a chart below on the Morgans and am showing, for illustration purposes, William and Edward as being brothers. At minimum these folks all knew each other--they lived in the same area, witnessed each others wills, etc. 2/11/1698: Richard Atwood, William Morgan, and John Manning witnessed the will of James Chessum, SMC. Admin. accts. of Robert Large, 7/29/1698; mentions 4 unnamed children; Adm., Elizabeth Morgan, wife of William Morgan (Skinner). (Elizabeth Large, widow, first wife of Wm. Morgan). Will of William Chisum, SMC 10/21/1697 (no probate date). Three daughters: Jane, Mary, and Ann at age 16 personal estate. Wife: Ann (Exec.) residuary legatee of estate, real and personal. Wit: Arthur Keane and William Gibson. Admin. accts. of William Chesham 3/10/1700; Admx., relict (unnamed), now wife of William Morgan (Skinner). (Ann, widow of Wm. Chessum, second wife of William Morgan). William Morgan and Ann Chessum, widow, were the parents of William Morgan, Jr. who married Mary, widow of Thomas Combs (I'd have to say brother or son of Simon Combs). 10/3/1722: Admin. accts. of Thomas Combs, SMC. Edward Morgan, the immigrant, was married first to ____Crane, daughter of Robert Crane. (Her name has been given as Mary but I believe that's an error. Robert Crane did have a daughter named Mary but she was married to William Guyther). Edward Morgan, the immigrant, married second, Mary Manning (daughter of John Manning and Mary Tant). I don't show William Combs connected to these families. This is an undated note I did to the list, probably a couple of years ago: My note to the list: Thomas Dant died some time after 1701 and before 1707. The last record I found was dated 10/28/1695 when he and William Shercliffe were listed as appraisers of the estate of Henry Spink, Sr. I also found a record dated 3/20/1706 showing Thomas Dant on a list of persons who owed the estate of Robert Mason (Mason died in 1701). 11/22/1712: Mrs. Mary Dant, age about 65 stated that her father, John Shercliffe; her mother, Ann Shercliffe and her uncle, Henry Spink often said her father and uncle sold land to Edward Cotton (MD Chancery Records). 11/22/1712. Next we have the will of William Dant, who I presume was a son of Thomas Dant and Mary Shercliffe: Will of William Dant, planter, SMC, 1/31/1714-5/16/1715. To: Cousins, John Dant and William Mills and their heirs, "Poplar Neck" with land adjoining, 76 ac. "Anstruther", equally. If the sd. John Dant dies without issue, then to John Mills and his heirs. To: Brother, Peter Mills, Exec., and to cousin Eleanor Nevitt, personalty. Wit.: William Coade, Elizabeth Hooke, Stephen Vinall, Hannah Vinall. NOTES: John Dant would have been a son of a brother of his. It wouldn't be John Dant born 1700 as that is his brother. William Mills was the son of his half brother, Peter Mills, Jr. and Frances Slye. John Mills is either the son of Peter Mills, Jr. and Frances Slye or of Nicholas Mills and Elizabeth Heard--not sure which one at this point. Cousin, Eleanor Nevitt was Eleanor Spink, dau. of his half sister, Elizabeth Mills and William Spink. Eleanor Spink married Francis Nevitt before 1712. "Anstruther", 30 ac., surveyed 4/29/1667 for Peter Miles (should be Mills) joining to Shercliffe's land. Possessor: Mary Dant. 6/7/1709: 32 ac. to William Dant from Charles Daft and wife, Elizabeth.
