My mother's side of the family contains others than the HARDY family I have been researching from Loudoun Co.,Va. to MD . The other lines starting from KY to Middlesex Co., VA if anyone is interested : (1) Daniels (2) Vivion (3) Smith (4) Cocke (5) Grosvenor, etc.. If any one is inteested please email me personally and I can send you a genealogy report from my Family Tree Maker. It appears that the John Minor name on my previous query on the Tithables in Loudoun County, Va runs into my lines which has NOTHING to do with my HARDY line. So, I have other connections that some on the list might have interest in. Kindly Regards, Marianne Dillow

I don't think William Stone, son of Thomas, married or had children, and if he did, his wife's name was Martha or Patsy. Just rediscovered this little gem. Agree that Ann married first, Richard Ashman; second, Henry Hardy; and third, William Forester. In 1702, Anne Hardy, the wife of a Charles County justice "upon a difference between her and her husband petitions that she with her children may be permitted to live upon her own land and to be allowed a sufficient maintenance to subsist upon". Two of the justices were appointed to try to compose the couple's differences. The two continued to argue, however, disagreeing particulary about the treatment and discipline of Anne's children by a former husband. In 1703 she complained of Hardy's "harsh and ill usage of her children and desires that they may be taken away from him and that they may all be bound out to trades." She finally petitioned in 1706 that "through his harsh and ill usage she is not able to live and cohabit with him and therefore desires with the approbation of the Court she may live from him and that the Court would order her a competency for a separate maintenance". Hardy agreed to a separation and "propounds to allow her 1500 lbs. of tobacco yearly and every year during her natural life and doth promise and engage to deliver her her necessary utensils and clothing and she is now possest with according to the degree of his wife". This "mutual agreement of boath parties" was approved by the Court. Marriage and Family by Lorena S. Walsh, "The Chesapeake in the 17th Century". Thank you for confirming the descendants of Thomas Stone. I thought those were his, but wasn't certain. Concerning the William Stone who married Mary Goodrick, I have him as the son of Matthew Stone (1679-1750) based on (among other things) the following: p. 8, TLC Genealogy, Charles County Land Records 1761-1765; Book L#3 Page 55. Jun 9, 1761 from William Stone of CC, planter, to Samuel Stone, [brot]her of the sd William Stone, of CC, planter, for 5_ lbs of crop tobacco and for divers other good causes, all of sd William Stone's part of a tract of land called Pointon Manor, bequeathed to him by the will of [his] decd father, Mathew Stone, containing about 50 acres. Signed - Will: Stone. Wit - Thos Stone*, John Winters*. Mrs. Mary Stone, wife of the afd William Stone, released her right of dower in the within mentioned lands. Recorded Nov 11, 1761. p. 176, TLC Genealogy, Charles County Deed Book S#3 Page 296. Deed of Gift. I, Mary Stone of CC, spinster, for the natural love and affection that I have for my sister, Theodocia Machonchie, and for divers other good causes, I give my sd sister one moiety or half part of my share of my late decd brother, William Stone's estate. Signed Sep 9, 1772 - Mary Stone. Wit - Rachel (+ her mark) Muncaster, Walter Hanson*. Recorded Sep 26, 1772. I don't think William Stone, son of Thomas, married or had children, and if he did, his wife's name was Martha or Patsy. This item leads me to believe he died before 25 Mar 1772, since he was an executor of his father, but his mother is given as the "surviving" exec. I haven't been able to find a probate for William Stone around this date, but I think his property went to his sibling. Thank you Linda Reno for shedding insight to this line. Since my postings it appears this may be a dead end with the rest of the Hardy family in Charles County as I have been informed that the lineage of the Charles County Hardy family starts with William Hardy 1718. Michael Marshall brought up the subject to me that maybe Ignatius Hardy could be the father of my Solomon Hardy born 1746/49 in MD --- died 1824 in Va.and moved across the Potomac River to Loudoun County from MD with George Hardy and wife Mary and William Hardy with wife Sarah and son Hanson Hardy and my Solomon. However, there doesn't seem to be hardly any documentation on Ignatius Hardy to prove this theory. Would anyone have any information on Ignatius.?? I know I am grabbing at straws but the first time I have seen the given name of Solomon in the Hardy family is the one born ca 1732 that married Rachel livers....then my Solomon is born ca 1746/49 in MD. He has to fit in this time frame somewhere. Thank You, Marianne Dillow
I'm confused at this exchange. If Eleanor (Elinor) Compton is the first wife of Henry Hardy, who is this Ann? - Bye from Bill Howard On Mar 31, 2007, at 3:33 PM, SHIRLEY MOLLER wrote: > That is the Ann that is mentioned in Henry's will, Ann was married to > Richard Ashman before Henry and after Henry she married Wm > Forster. I agree! I heard about this about a month ago on the radio. However, a cousin of mine who lives in Arlington Texas said that it goes on all over there in many businesses. Thanks again Shirley. I forgot to mention one other avenue to find more Hardy records in Leicestershire County, England is to check the hearth tax records. Marianne Dillow [email protected]
Thanks Shirley for all your information. I also hope the English records will provide some further answers in the future. I find it interesting to say the least. Marianne Dillow
If I get this right, Ann (UNKNOWN ) married : (1) Richard Ashman (2) Henry Hardy (3) Wm. Forester Since I am on the mailing list for [email protected] I also received the following informaton on the records in Leicestershire County, England : (1) Search Parish records (2) Find the manor the family lived in (3) Email the Leicester Record Office to find if any records exist (4) Manor court records may well be the only way to trace the Hardy family at that time period due to the 1640's had a civil war and records are hard to trace.
