Melinda, thanks for sharing. I know some on the board do not believe we should post such messages but if we don't protect each other where we normally meet we are subject to falling prey to the unscrupulous out there. Have been on genealogy boards since late 80s and am seeing a lot of these scams now days. phil ----- Original Message ----- From: timothy robinson Sent: Tuesday, December 24, 2002 2:37 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MDCECIL] Attention list members This is being passed around to alert the list of a possible SCAM... Thanks.........Tim Robinson; Baltimore, Maryland ********** I received e-mail from genseekers.com offering me a free 5 day trial so that I could find data that was in response to a message that I posted in 1998 on the Fayette Co., PA message board. I tried to get the 5 day trial to see what was available but had to give them my credit card number and then I could cancel in 5 days if I was not happy with their service. Problem is, they do no receive any e-mail at the site they send you to ([email protected]) and you do not get the login name and password needed to access their website. I have now found that this is a SCAM website and wanted to warn everyone on each of the lists I am on. I plan to call VISA tomorrow and tell them that if a charge for $59.95 for a one year membership comes thru, I am NOT going to pay it! Of course, they now have my number and can use it at their discretion so will have to cancel my account and open a new one. Big pain! BEWARE! Don't be a dumb as I was!
