I am looking for anyone who might be able to help me identify James Hyland from Maryland. This James Hyland can be found in 1788 in Kent County, MD and then in 1790, 1800, 1810 & 1820 Kent County census records. It is noted that he lived in Kent County in the district which lies close to the Cecil County line. This James Hyland was a blacksmith and it is determined from census records that he was born in the 1750's. From census records his wife was born bet. 1760-1770. In his will written 10 Nov 1823 and proven 18 Sep 1832 in Kent County he lists the following children: son, James Hyland (abt. 1793- 1824) who pre-deceased his father in 1824 and was married to Rhoda ? (1795-1838) son, Henry Miles Hyland (1796-1851) m. Mary Maria Grant (1799-1847) (both buried in Old St. Paul's Cem. Kent Co., MD daughter, Ann Hyland married to Richard Hurtt (1775-1838) daughter, Kesiah (Keziah) Hyland married to Mr. Love I have been able to identify another daughter not listed in his will and her name was Isabella Hyland (1776-1838) m. Capt. Henry Yearly (Yearley) (abt. 1769-1827) I feel certain that this Hyland family must be connected to the John and Nicholas Hyland family of Cecil County. From my research of the Cecil County Hyland family I find that John Hyland b. 11/27/1746 in Cecil County was the s/o John Hyland (1716-1756) and his wife Martha Tilden. John Hyland b. 1746 d. bef. 23 Oct 1815 in Chestertown, Kent County. Will Book #9 folio 319. ( John Hyland of Kent County) To be buried at the discretion of my wife, Ann Elizabeth Hyland. My debts paid out of my estate by my wife Ann Elizabeth Hyland. To my dau. Rebecca Ferguson a negro girl Mary that is now living with her. All the rest of my estate to my wife, Ann Elizabeth Hyland in consideration of her raising the children. Exec. my wife Ann Elizabeth Hyland. Wit: William Pearce, Thomas Davis, Mary Pearce. Written Jan 13, 1815 proved Oct 23, 1815. I also have a note that John Hyland and his wife Anne Elizabeth Worrell had a son, William Hyland b. in the 1790's in Chestertown and died in Moultrie Co., Ill on 25 July 1860. It is my belief that the above John Hyland (1746-1815) married 1st in 1778 to Martha Tilden d/o Charles & Jane Tilden of Kent County. Martha Hyland mentioned in her father's will as being deceased before 1787. This 1st wife having the same name as Martha Tilden d/o Marmaduke Tilden and his wife Rebecca Wilmer who married John Hyland (1716-1756) of Harmony Hall and parents of John Hyland (1746-1815). The 2nd wife of John Hyland (1746-1815) was Ann Elizabeth Worrell. Reverting back to John Hyland (1716-1756) and his wife Martha Tilden (d. 1766) d/o Marmaduke Tilden & Rebecca Wilmer. They were married 2 Apr 1739 St. Mary's Ann Parish, Cecil County, MD. I show that they had the following children: Rebecca Hyland married to John Kankey Nicholas Hyland b. 1742 (Nothing other than birth date) Stephen Hyland b. 1744 m. Rebecca Tilden d/o Charles & Jane Tilden John Hyland b. 1746-1815 m1st. Martha Tilden d/o Charles & Jane Tilden m2nd Ann Elizabeth Worrell Charles Hyland b. 1749 (Nothing other than birth date.) Lambert Hyland b. 1751m. 1st Elizabeth Rigby, 2nd Elizabeth Gale & 3rd Sarah Miles (This Lambert re-located from Cecil Co. to Somerset Co. bef the Rev. War) Millicent Hyland b. 1754 m. Capt. John Ford Nothing seems to be known abt. son, Nicholas b. 1742 or son Charles b. 1749. Since Charles was b. 1749, I am wondering could he have been James Charles or Charles James Hyland, and later removed to Kent County and just went by James Hyland???????????? I am still trying to place a Stephen Hyland (1800-1850) with his parents. This Stephen Hyland in his obit in Balto Sun. states Cecil & Kent Counties please copy. This Stephen Hyland married to Hester Wright. Their Children: Ann E. Hyland m. Charles A. Hush 1843 Stephen W. Hyland d. 1839 Sarah Hyland d. 1838 Look forward to hearing from Hyland Researchers. Thank you, Sharon
