Hi Judy and all, Thank you very much for posting these very interesting land transfers. > [JKA Note: via e-mail from descendant of the above Peter PETERSON, the name > Peter Peterson SMITH is incorrect, his trade was blacksmith] I agree, and wish the capitalization in these transcriptions of the land deed recitations would be changed to reflect the correct surname and occupation. > Would this PETERSON be related to or one of yours?? Closest I can see now is that Hans PETERSON to me would be something like a 3rd cousin 9 times removed. But I haven't tracked these people very far yet. I do not know who was Peter PETERSON senior's wife, Catherina. Does anyone have that? Some of the Hans PETERSON in-laws lived at Head of Elk or along Sassafrass River. I haven't found a marriage of one of the Brandywine PETERSONs to one of the Middletown PETERSONs yet. Hans PETERSON was said to be from Holstein (at the time part of Denmark), born about 1631, and had arrived on the Delaware as a soldier, working for the Dutch. He married two Swedish or Finnish wives. His second wife was Magdalena, a daughter of Pauel Jonsson "Mullica." Hans PETERSON and wife Magdalena inherited a half share of Pauel Jonsson Mullica's estate at "Wilde Hoek" also known as Wild or Indian Point. The other half of the Wild Point land was inherited by Pauel Jonsson's wife, Margareta (Andersdotter) PETERSON, who sold her share to Paul Mansson (her grandson) in September 1674 --who sold it on the same day back to Hans PETERSON (his uncle). Hans PETERSON also owned lands at Shellpot ( Skilpot) creek, including a mill or part of a mill. He and Magdalena Pauelsdotter had three sons: Peter (senior), Paul, and Israel PETERSON. There should also be a Carl PETERSON, son of Hans' first wife. If Peter PETERSON, jr is now (1725) selling land, somewhere previous there should be deeds from Israel PETERSON and from Paul PETERSON to their brother Peter junior, for his share. I tried to figure out if there was a special reason why these parcels of land were sold to Henry STEDHAM. The closest relationship I can find --and i am not sure I have all of the STEDHAMs listed here --is this: Hendrick STEDHAM, son of Adam, is a first cousin of Margaret Lyloffse STEDHAM, dau of Lulof STEDHAM. Margaret Lyloffse STEDHAM was married to Israel PETERSON --a grandson of Hans PETERSON. So, Peter PETERSON jr is selling land to his brother's wife's cousin. It would be interesting to see how the portion of the land that had once been Cornelius EMPSON's had come to Hans or Peter PETERSON. I don't think I have all the EMPSON relationships yet... Cornelius EMPOSN's daughter Sarah Empson was supposedly one of the four wives of Edward Robinson. His first wife had been Anna Walraven, who died about 1712. Anna WALRAVEN's father was Walraven Jansen "de Vos", a former soldier for the Dutch West Indies Company. His widow, Christina Ollesdotter, had married (2) to Margaret Lyloffse STEDHAM's grandfather, Timen STEDHAM, a doctor-surgeon for the New Sweden colony who died about 1686. If these's another connection between Hans PETERSON and Hendrich STEDHAM, I would be interested to know it. And I am also interested in descendents of Cornelius EMPSON. His son Ebenezer Empson married Susannah Wood, a daughter of Joseph Wood and Francina (Augustine) Herman. Thanks again for these land deed transcriptions. I find them fascinating as well as useful.
