Hi Judy, Good to see you here too. I don't have those books, so I am very appreciate of your past postings and also your current work. Many of your past postings have been very useful to me. I had once thought that most of the people I am following lived near Middletown Delaware. But now I find more and more who were very close to the state line, or in Maryland. I'll send you what SMITHs and REESE and etc I have, but I am still collecting info --these might make more questions than answers. But I am hoping if we post enough, we'll eventually crack each others problems somehow. If you or anyone wants more info on something here, just ask. Whatever I have so far I will share. I have --all of these pre-RevWar, some much earlier; BELVILLE-CANNON-CAZIER Middletown DE area ELIASON, DuSHANE Eliason lvd on both sides of the state line, 1700 and on; both orig in New York (Dutch church) & Staten Island. Van BEBBER from 1700 and PETERSON Cecil Co. and Middletown DE area from 1670's. WOOD; Middletown, DE; 1785-1863. Interested in all WOOD --desc of the Joseph WOOD who m. Francina HERMAN (d/o Augustine) need more research --I have Jacob WOOD who m. Catalina PETERSON, Middletown DE in 1755. Hi Liz and all, You mentioned that you have the Eliason and DuShane families. I also have a Thomas Ward of that same early 1700s era, living on or near the state line, and from Staten Island. I think there were several families that may have moved at or about the same time from Staten Island/NY to this MD/DE area that we've been discussing. Does anyone know where to look to follow-up on this idea? Liz, have you followed up on the Eliasons and DuShanes before they lived "here"? This is one of those ideas that I've had but haven't pursued yet. HI Ellen, I had just started to wonder if your WARDs had been connected with those closer to NY. I have run into the name there somewhere, but had not gotten time to check into that more. Yes, I have followed up on some of my families who previously lived closer to the NY area before moving don to Delaware. Also have followed up on some who emigrated direct to DE/MD. I am better with some ethnic groups or religious orientations, than I am with others. If I had to say where a good starting point would be for checking into families who migrated to DE/MD, from NY and Staten Island, also from both ends of NJ and from Bucks Couinty PA and greater Philadelphia, I would have to say, go search list archives from the Dutch-Colonies-list on Rootsweb. Just this month (maybe going back to last month), there was a thread posted, entitled "Books I Like." In there are several good recommendations, notably a post by Howard Swain, who listed his best, most detailed, reliable resources. I would choose a name to research, then do a Search of D-Col archives over the years, and see what pops up. Spell the name several ways if you don't immediately get hits. There is a magazine published by Dorothy Koning called "New Netherland Connections" which can be very useful. Indexes to that are available. Rootsweb is "no-ad" but again check D-Col archives for mention of families who have been written about in that publication, which usually give the issue number and date. Also Dorothy publishes Queries (free) so take advantage by reading past queries and by posting new ones. I also use online resources such as baptism records of New Amsterdam and other Dutch Churches. I find baptismal sponsors that way, who often turn nout to be family members or associats who also did come down to our area. One resource or resource person who is probably under-utilized is Dr. Peter Stanley Craig and his works. In addition to publishing several books, his articles with profiles of families who emigrated direct (in most cases) to the Delaware River settlements in the Swedish era, which was before the Dutch takeover in 1655. These articles can be found in the magazine of the Swedish Colonial Society and are downloadable in PDF. I can share my web bookmarks which may also be useful. For example, there's a directory of Dutch settlers to New Amsterdam online that is very useful. Also, some wills of persons who lived in New York state are available. I have located will abstracts for several key persons of mine, in Philadelphia wills abstracts, which are online in USgenweb archives. The NJ-List on Rootsweb also has some very good resources posted, some of which were also posted to USgenweb for the state of NJ. Wills abstracts for the early colonuial era are posted; an entire volume of (mostkly) land records has been posted to the NJ list. In those land recordss are also land records of New Castle County, and some records of other locations along the non-NJ side of that river. Also, Maryland State Archives are online and can be quite useful, as they are searchable. Because the border between Maryland and Delaware did move, MD archives can often yield info about Delaware people. Lots of goodies buried in there. I'll try to make time to create a table of useful bookmarks. Might not get to that this weekend; I am waayyy behind where I am "supposed" to be. But remind me if that sounds interesting. I'm probably leaving out more than I can put in here. If you can come back with more specific questions, maybe I can direct you more precisely. I am not up to speed on WARD nor on DYRE (nor REESE), so I have not many more hints for those especially (yet). Did you need ELIASON or DuSHANE specifically --or was the question more general, about migrations into our area? If these families are wanted I can work up something on them, especially if you can tell me where or on whom to focus. Hope this is what you needed. If not, or if you need something more specific, just let me know & I'll try. Best wishes, Liz J On 11/3/06, Ellen Ward <ellen@bcpl.net> wrote: > Hi Liz and all, > > You mentioned that you have the Eliason and DuShane families.
