In the year 1753 my younger brother, Andrew Peterson, died under age, when his land appointed to him by the said commissioners was divided in the same manner, a part of which also situated near Middletown was allotted to me as my share. All of which lands above mentioned with the houses and buildings thereon constitute my Real Estate in North America, which I have been enabled by the blessing of Divine Providence on my endeavors in a Foreign Country to retain, and to give all the rents and profits accruing from the same to my relations in Middletown aforesaid for their better support and as a mark of my affection. And I, being now in good health of body, also of a sound mind and memory, proceed to dispose of my American property by this, my Last Will and Testament, in the following manner. I give and devise all my Real Estate standing and being near Middletown in North America aforesaid, unto my grand-nephew, Andrew Jacob Peterson, his heirs and assigns forever. He, having been born in the year of Our Lord 1792 and being the son of my late Nephew, Dr. Henry Peterson, who was the son of my brother, Jacob Peterson, also a physician, deceased in the year 1774, subject to the charged and chargeable with the payment of the sum of 500 pounds sterling, which I give and bequeath thereout and charge thereon to be paid by my said grand-nephew, his heirs and assigns at the time of my death, or if he is a minor then to be paid by his guardian and trustee, Dr. James Clayton, or whoever may act in that capacity at that time, into the hands of the Executors of this my last will and testament, hereinafter named (which sum I lent to his father, my late nephew, Dr. Henry Peterson, in the year 1793, who received the same or the value in American money from me through Rundle and Murgatroy, merchants in Philadelphia). The said sum of 500 pounds sterling to be so paid with interest on the same calculated at five per centum per annum to commence from the first day of January, 1797 and not before, which payments I direct to be made at the end of two years after my decease shall be known in America and this will produce there; and the said interest to continue payable from the first day of January, 1797 until payment of the said principal money. And if such payments be made as aforesaid then the said Real Estate which is now in the occupation of Mrs. Mary Reading, widow of Philip Reading, late of Middletown, aforesaid Esquire deceased, is to be delivered up to her by the said Andrew Jacob Peterson or his trustees; she receiving the rent thereof which shall be then nearly due and which I give to her. And I authorize her also to receive the profits thereof for her own use during two years after this my will shall be produced in America and up to the day of payment of payment of the said sum of 500 pounds and interest. And when and as soon as the said sum of 500 pounds sterling with the interest on the same from the said first day of January 1797 till payment thereof shall be made as aforesaid in American money at the then rate of Exchange in London, I request and order and direct my Executors then to divide that money into equal parts; one moiety of which I give and bequeath equally unto and amongst my three nieces, the daughters of the late Dr. James Wynkoop, late of Baltimore in North America, aforesaid deceased, whose maiden names are or were Mary Wynkoop, Hester Catherine Wynkoop, and Harriet Grace Wynkoop. And the other remaining moiety thereof I give and bequeath equally unto or amongst my five nephews and nieces, the children of the said Philip Reading, deceased, whose names are or were Philip Reading, Maria Reading, Catherine Anne Reading, Andrew Peterson Reading and Sally Eliza Reading; or however their names may be spelled or written, or to such of them as shall be alive when the time of such divisions shall arrive. But if default shall be made in payment of said sum of 500 pounds and interest according the directions hereinbefore given concerning the same, then I revoke and make void the said divisions of my said Real Estate so made to my said grand-nephew as aforesaid. And in that case I give the same Real Estate to the Executors of my will and heirs and assigns forever. And hereby authorize, direct and empower them my said executors, their heirs or assigns absolutely to sell, convey and dispose of the same; and to divide the rent proceeds whereof in money into two equal halves, one moiety of which I give and bequeath as above to the said three daughters of said Dr. James Wynkoop; and the remaining moiety to the said five children of the said Philip Reading deceased. And in order to facilitate any such sale, conveyance and disposition I hereby expressly will and declare that no purchaser or purchases of my said Real Estate or any part thereof shall be bound to inquire into or ascertain the fact of Refusal or Neglect to pay the said sum of 500 pounds and interest as the cause of a voidance of the said first mentioned devise; or shall be answerable or accountable for the misapplication or non-application or be bound to see the due application of the purchase monies to be paid for the same for that the receipt whereof acknowledged in writing under the hands of the executors and trustees of any two of them shall be a good and sufficient acquittance and discharge to such purchaser and purchasers paying the same both at law and in equity to all intents and purposes. Liz and anyone else who might be willing to help, Philip Reading is on a branch of the Wards of Cecil County. His daughter Maria married William Henry Ward in 1809 in New Castle County. William is my 2nd great granduncle. I have that his wife's name is Mary and had the information in my database that she was Mary Peterson but I'm not really sure and hadn't pursued it much until now. Does anyone have anything that might help me be sure I have the right Mary and if she is Mary Peterson, that she is the daughter of Andrew Peterson and Hester Van Bebber? Does anyone have a marriage for one or both of these people? Catalina or Catherine PETERSON, daughter of Hester and Andrew PETERSON, born probably 1730 to 1735. She lived at Middletown, Delaware. Tim, That could be the Benjamin that I have a copy of his will dated 1799. Is there any thing about Bezaleel & Mary ? Thank you, Sandy
In St. Johns and St.Georges Parish Register; Baltimore County, Maryland, were some FOSTER's including........ BENJAMIN FOSTER, s/o BEZALEEL & MARY FOSTER, b. 3 November 1737. ( The record says 1737, but could be 1739 ) If this is sounding promising, let me know and I'll send any other family members. Ellen, Do you have ny land records in your books for: Henry/Hendrick Van Bibber, Van Bebber, Vanbebber James, Jacob or Jacobus Van Bibber, Van Bebber, Vanbebber Starting about 1720 but please could you check from 1700 to about 1750 for these guys. Mathias was a brother of Hendrick, he had a lot of land in Cecil County, MD, also adjacent in Delaware. There was also a brother Isaac. but I am mainly interested in Mathias and especially in his son Jacob aka James. Jacob aka James Van Bebber was married c1720 to Ann LaROUX. Thanks very much, Liz J
Hi, He did have a brother John B. born 8-19 1827 Cecil Co. MD d. 4-22-1908 Ohio and a uncle John Jackson born abt. 1776 and died abt. 11-11-1832. I got this information from other people, the only papers I have is a will dated 1799 Cecil Co. & Edwards will Fulton Co. IL. Sandy
Carol, I have a question for you, I hope you can answer. In your tree here, "Descendants of James Van Bibber" --could Catalina, the daughter of James (Jacobus) VB, have been born in 1721/22 (that is, Old-Style calendar)?? Or is that birth really 1721? Since it's April, it was probably 1721, but it's significant to me. How solid is that record, do you have the actual wording of whatever the source of the record was?? That would be useful to me if you had it. Also, I have added in some more of the tentative tree you sent. My additions are not proved to my own satisfaction either, but it's a start. One of these days I have to see who Hester GOODING's parents are. And I was very interested to see the part of the family (DAVIS, DAVID, WOOD) who lived in/near Cohansey NJ. Some NJ wills abstracts are also online. Thanks again, Liz J > ... not proved the following ... > > Descendants of James Van Bibber 1 James Van Bibber .. +Anna Laroun/Laurax m: Abt. 1720 .... 2 Catalina Van Bibber b: April 17, 1721 in Duck Creek, Hundred, Kent Co., Dover, Delaware d: October 30, 1751 in Middletown, New Castle Co., Delaware ........ +Enoch David b: March 06, 1715/16 in Duck Creek, Hundred, Kent Co., Dover, Delaware m: 1745 in Bohemia Manor, Maryland d: November 28, 1793 in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania ........... 3 Mary Ann David b: June 19, 1746 ............... +Isaac Davis b: September 25, 1743 in Cohansey, Salem Co., NJ m: September 23, 1767 in Salem Co., NJ d: Abt. Carol, > could Peers be Parson? or Wilem Person be Willem Peers? Yes, I think William PEERS is the same as William PEERSEN. I complied some of the later PEERS appearances in NY Dutch church, they are below. NB: all of these would need double-checking in the books --these are from online presentation of the bapt register which has been annotated. Also, there are several PARSONS whose wills were filed in Philadelphia. Maybe abstracts of those would be helpful. I started to compile them here but I think it would make this post too long. However, here is an abstract of William PARSONS will dated 1757. This William PARSONS lived up at Easton --near North/Southhampton PA, where there had been a Dutch Church, and from where others seemed to move down into New Castle County Delaware and perhaps into adjacent Cecil County. PARSONS, WILLIAM. Easton, Co. of Northampton, Pa. Gentleman. December 15, 1757. December 21, 1757. L.38. Wife and three Children: No names given, "now living." Sister: Sarah and two children. Late sister Mary and her four(4?) children. "My late dear mother" and (my late) 3 children, viz., "Robert, Susannah and Hannah." Son-in-Law: James Worrall. Nephew: Doctor Stephen Woolley. Nieces: Rebecca Woolley and Elizabeth Cummins. Servant: Elizabeth Kritsman. Poor Scholers, Academy of Philadelphia. Exec: William Coleman and Evan Morgan [of Philadelphia], Timothy Horsfield [of Bethleham]. Wit: Da. Henderson, Jost Vollert. I started to complie other PARSONS wills from Phila but think it would make this post too long. But this is the P index: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/philadelphia/wills/willsurmq.txt (just take the piece of the URL that appears after the name in the index, and add it to this URL without a break) http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/philadelphia/wills/ Good luck and please let me know how it's going. It's getting more interesting to me yet because Sara PEERS seems to be married to an Ellis ELLISEN in the NY baptisms... I'm interested in a Cecil County family beginning with Elias ELISON, and in William ELIASON. But that's for another day.
