Bus Trip to Washington, D.C. Seeks to Unearth Family History No genealogical hunt for family facts is complete without a trip to Washington, D. C. to visit the National Archives and to check out the Daughters of the American Revolution Library. The Historical Society of Cecil County is sponsoring its second genealogical bus trip for experienced and novice researchers to visit these repositories on Monday, October 23, 2006. The coach will leave the Big Elk Mall in Elkton at 7:00 A. M. and will return around 6:30 P. M. Those who would prefer to use the time to tour Washington, perhaps to see the new American Native Museum and the World War II Memorial, are welcome to join us; the National Archives building is located on the mall and across the street from a Metro station. The cost for transportation is $28 for members of the Historical Society and $33 for non-members. Checks should be payable to the Historical Society of Cecil County, and mailed to Historical Society of Cecil County, attention: Billie Todd, 135 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland 21921. Please include your phone number when you send the check. If you have any questions, contact Billie Todd at 302-731-4166 or e-mail her at befrnk@msn.com.

I did not mean to imply that "Early Anglican Church Records .." were other than what they have been reported to be. I was only relating an experience that happened a year or so ago with respect to records of another place. I always want to see images of the original records --that is to say, I would like to be able to see images of the primary records. Thanks for the clarification. "Early Anglican Church Records .." by Henry C. Peden, Jr. is a compliation taken from copies of the registers done by Lucy H. Harrison. The original records of St. Stephen's (1693-1913) are held by the manuscript division of the Maryland Historical Society. An original of the St. Mary Anne's Parish records is held by the church itself in a local bank vault. {I copied this from Henry Peden's introduction in the front of the book. Arlen, its good to hear from you again. I hope your lives are getting back to normal after Katrina. I remember hearing from you shortly after. Previously we had conversations about Wheeler's Point. You also sent me some documents for the Ward family which helped me a lot. If you need the info on Wheeler's Point I'd be glad to send it to you. Thank you. That is what it seemed to me after seeing references to the earliest baptisms which must have occurred in St Stephen's or North Sasssafras parish. These early records also contain collected memoranda of events, which would need checking some other way if that were possible. It would seem to me as if, had a baptism been known to have occurred on a certain date in a certain place, the transcription or new presentation of that data would have mentioned those dates and places specifically. I have run up against this sort of thing before. I remember a cousin once went to the big library in Salt Lake to look up films of records reputed to be "originals." But after he sent us copies of those filmed images, I noticed that the neat handwriting and the white paper looked remarkably non-old. Therefore, I asked around, and after some investigation, I learned that I was right: the films did not contain images of the original minister's records, but instead contained images of the handwriting of a twentieth-century transcriber who had collected various church records up to three hundred years old into a volume pertaining to a specific area. The only thing "original" about those records was the handwriting of the complier-transcriber. The sources of the records and the actual locations of the events described in those records was obscure. So I appreciate the commentary about these early records, that helps clear things up. Thank you for posting the observation. It just kills me not to participate in the ongoing discussion on St. Stephen's (C of E) parish in Earleville, Cecil Co., MD because all of my notes and documents on this subject were taken by Katrina last year, but the Summer 2006 issue of the Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin, which arrived today, contains an article by me and Susan E. I believe that the records for *St. Mary Anne's Parish* were destroyed in a fire, not for St. Stephen's. St. Stephen's has lots of records prior to 1743. Yes. John Birmingham supposedly died 1733; the marriage of Veronica and John Birmingham was (supposedly) 1726. I don't know what church or record that would be in. After she was widowed, Veronica married second to Adam Peterson the younger, the only son of Andrew Peterson and his first wife, Lydia Williams-Neering. The marriage of Veronica VB to Adam Peterson has to have been after John Birmingham died, and not previous to the marriage to Birmingham --see this land deed: New Castle County Delaware Land Records 1749-1752. Witherspoon is Adam's stepmother's husband, because since about 1728, Andrew Peterson's second wife was Hester van Bebber. Hi... My fifth ggrandfather, Benjamin Marley, birth circa 8/1700, record from St. Stephen's Parish is found in the IGI. Benjamin Marley ended up in Kent Co. and was a pew holder at Shrewsbury Parish. He married Elizabeth (Riddle?). He died in 1756. Bev W.

Liz, I don't see a baptism for Veronica van Bebber at all in "Early Anglican Church Records of Cecil County, Maryland." That date is for Jacob vanBebber son of Isaac & Fronika and appears on page 25. That is also the only place Fronika is mentioned in the book. Isaac's admin. account mentions a daughter Veronica who married John Birmingham. Ellen -----Original Message----- From: mdcecil-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdcecil-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of E Johnson Sent: Monday, September 25, 2006 1:59 PM To: MDCECIL@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDCECIL] An Early Baptism at St Stephen's There was a Veronica van Bebber, whose baptism is said to have taken place on 26 October 1692 - St. Stephen's Parish, Cecil County, Maryland. She is related to Isaac van Bebber. Which Veronica is she?? Many folks think she is Veronica, the daughter of Isaac (Jacobsz) van Bibber and Isaac's wife, Fronica Schumacker (daughter of Peter Schumacker). The marriage date of Isaac van Bibber and his wife, Fronica Schumacker is said to be 28 May 1690. But I think this 1692 baptism must really be the baptism of Fronica Schumaker herself, as an adult. This makes a big difference, as Veronica van Bebber (the daughter) was married to John Birmingham (on March 14, 1726 I believe), who died about 1732 or -33, then to Adam Peterson of Middletown, Delaware, after that. Is there some way to check on this baptism of 26 October 1692?? If I could see the exact wording of this record it would be very good; even a double-check would be helpful. Where is St Stephens Parish and Cemetery located in Cecil County Thanks, Frank Odenton, MD
There was a Veronica van Bebber, whose baptism is said to have taken place on 26 October 1692 - St. Thanks very much, Liz J
