    3. HI Ellen, I had just started to wonder if your WARDs had been connected with those closer to NY. I have run into the name there somewhere, but had not gotten time to check into that more. Yes, I have followed up on some of my families who previously lived closer to the NY area before moving don to Delaware. Also have followed up on some who emigrated direct to DE/MD. I am better with some ethnic groups or religious orientations, than I am with others. If I had to say where a good starting point would be for checking into families who migrated to DE/MD, from NY and Staten Island, also from both ends of NJ and from Bucks Couinty PA and greater Philadelphia, I would have to say, go search list archives from the Dutch-Colonies-list on Rootsweb. Just this month (maybe going back to last month), there was a thread posted, entitled "Books I Like." In there are several good recommendations, notably a post by Howard Swain, who listed his best, most detailed, reliable resources. I would choose a name to research, then do a Search of D-Col archives over the years, and see what pops up. Spell the name several ways if you don't immediately get hits. There is a magazine published by Dorothy Koning called "New Netherland Connections" which can be very useful. Indexes to that are available. Rootsweb is "no-ad" but again check D-Col archives for mention of families who have been written about in that publication, which usually give the issue number and date. Also Dorothy publishes Queries (free) so take advantage by reading past queries and by posting new ones. I also use online resources such as baptism records of New Amsterdam and other Dutch Churches. I find baptismal sponsors that way, who often turn nout to be family members or associats who also did come down to our area. One resource or resource person who is probably under-utilized is Dr. Peter Stanley Craig and his works. In addition to publishing several books, his articles with profiles of families who emigrated direct (in most cases) to the Delaware River settlements in the Swedish era, which was before the Dutch takeover in 1655. These articles can be found in the magazine of the Swedish Colonial Society and are downloadable in PDF. I can share my web bookmarks which may also be useful. For example, there's a directory of Dutch settlers to New Amsterdam online that is very useful. Also, some wills of persons who lived in New York state are available. I have located will abstracts for several key persons of mine, in Philadelphia wills abstracts, which are online in USgenweb archives. The NJ-List on Rootsweb also has some very good resources posted, some of which were also posted to USgenweb for the state of NJ. Wills abstracts for the early colonuial era are posted; an entire volume of (mostkly) land records has been posted to the NJ list. In those land recordss are also land records of New Castle County, and some records of other locations along the non-NJ side of that river. Also, Maryland State Archives are online and can be quite useful, as they are searchable. Because the border between Maryland and Delaware did move, MD archives can often yield info about Delaware people. Lots of goodies buried in there. I'll try to make time to create a table of useful bookmarks. Might not get to that this weekend; I am waayyy behind where I am "supposed" to be. But remind me if that sounds interesting. I'm probably leaving out more than I can put in here. If you can come back with more specific questions, maybe I can direct you more precisely. I am not up to speed on WARD nor on DYRE (nor REESE), so I have not many more hints for those especially (yet). Did you need ELIASON or DuSHANE specifically --or was the question more general, about migrations into our area? If these families are wanted I can work up something on them, especially if you can tell me where or on whom to focus. Hope this is what you needed. If not, or if you need something more specific, just let me know & I'll try. Best wishes, Liz J On 11/3/06, Ellen Ward <ellen@bcpl.net> wrote: > Hi Liz and all, > > You mentioned that you have the Eliason and DuShane families. 2. The N-S boundry of Delaware[Pa] and Maryland was not a static boundry, but shifted,in Delaware's favor, over the years. The further south in Delaware you go,the more influence Maryland once had. Very, very interested in Samuel Ball, son and brother of Philadelphia area Wm Ball[s]. And I've spent years on a Thomas Brown, who genealogists have often claimed was wed to Mary Ball, daughter of Wm Ball,Sr,merchant of Hope Farm, Kensington,5 miles north of downtown Philadelphia. At least Samuel Ball was in Appoquinimink near Middletown. Maybe the parish border of the Episcopal church near Middletown was more static than the state line. We pick up Thomas Brown, during the Rev War,near Moorefield,Hampshire-Hardy Co, WV [Va. Then near his son-in-law,James Sandusky,in Bourbon Co,Ky,and finally,my Clermont Co,SW Ohio 1800 +

    3. Hi Liz and all, You mentioned that you have the Eliason and DuShane families. I also have a Thomas Ward of that same early 1700s era, living on or near the state line, and from Staten Island. I think there were several families that may have moved at or about the same time from Staten Island/NY to this MD/DE area that we've been discussing. Does anyone know where to look to follow-up on this idea? Liz, have you followed up on the Eliasons and DuShanes before they lived "here"? This is one of those ideas that I've had but haven't pursued yet. 3. Donna, I don't have that book. I would be very pleased if you could look up Mathias or any Van Bebbers in it. Whatever you feel like doing would help me tremendously. I don't know if this one would be in the Cecil County book, but would like this one especially --the earlier deal here had been made in (I think) 1700 --which would have been the 11th year of King William's reign in England: Land deeded to Mathias VB by Heletie (Peterson) Anderson, his wife's aunt: "Deed. On 14 June 1708. Isaac Vigoreu of Appoquinimink Creek, yeoman, & Heleitie his wife to Mathias van Bebber of Cecil County in the province of Maryland, merchant, and Hermintie his wife, daughter of Adam Peterson, late of Appoquinimink Creek, gentleman, dec, & Adam Peterson the younger of Appoquinimink Creek, son of Adam Peterson, dec. Whereas by one deed dated 19 Feb 11th year of King William III England, Hillitie by her then name Hillitie Anderson of Appoquinimink Creek, widow..." --need remainder of quote; need location of land. There should be land purchases 1702, 1704, 1708 (Isaac Van Bebber), 1711, 1714 and 1716. I think there would be also a James aka Jacob, who is Mathias' nephew, in a land deal around 1713 or so. What specific piece (location) he received would be very good to know. Whenever the same Jacob aka James Van Bebber sold any lands would also be significant. Mathias van Bebber is my 8- great-grandfather. I could post trees of these families if anyone is interested. Petersons mostly lived on the Delaware side of the state line nearer to Middletown DE, since the 1670's. Many Van Bebbers over there too since about 1700. 3. Donna, Thank you very much for double-checking these records. I did not have an Elizabeth for them. I wonder if anyone has a marriage for her, or a death date. I think she might have died young. I would appreciate correspondence with descendents of Matthias Van Bebber and Haramantia (Peterson). They are my 8-great-grandparents. It was very kind of you to check these. Best wishes, Liz J On 11/1/06, Donna Hutchings <hutching@erols.com> wrote: > page 26 > Jacob VanBebber son of Matthias and Haramantia b. 2 Feb 1706 > Elizabeth VanBebber dau of sam b. 18 Dec 1708 > Christian vanBebber dau of same b. 18 Sep 1711 > >

Is there an Elizabeth Van BEBBER (or Van Bibber, or VANBEBBER, etc), born 1708 or so, in "Early Anglican Church Records of Cecil County, Maryland" ?? An Elizabeth Van Bebber was supposedly born between Dec 15 and 18, 1708, in St. Stephens Par., Cecil Co., Md. I don't have her in my database; am momentarily clueless. Is this date "born" or "baptized" ?? Was this the baptism of a child, or not? Is she in Peden's book? Who were her parents? Whatever info about her can be provided would be very helpful. Can sks do a double-check of a record in Henry Peden's book, "Early Anglican Church Records of Cecil County, Maryland." I would like to see if what i have in my database is what was actually in the book. This should be on pp. 24-25. My question is --on this page here, is the Peter Van BEBBER, b. 25 May 1695, really listed as the son of "Jacob V Bebber" ??? --and "Fronika his Wife" ?? Does it really say, "Peter V Bebber Son of Jacob V Bebber and Fronika his Wife was born on 25 Day of May A. D. 1695." ?? If so, there has been an error, because it was Isaac (Jacobs) Van Bebber, son of Jacob Van Bebber, whose wife was Fronica Schumaker, who had a son Peter Van Bebber in that time frame. If the record is wrong, that would probably be because somewhere along the line of making this record, the patronymic (father's name) of Isaac Van Bebber (Peter's father) was inadvertantly used, rather than his actual name. Isaac Van Bebber's father (grandfather of Peter) was Jacob Van Bebber. The birth record should say: Peter van Bebber, son of Isaac [Jacobs(on)] Van Bebber and Fronika his Wife, was born on 25 Day of May A. D. 1695. Thanks in advance for the help.
