    1. Re: [MDCECIL] History of Cecil Co. - ALEXANDER

    3. Wow, thanks, Alan. > John McKnitt 292 I have a John McKnight, widower, married in 1684 to Jane Alexander. Only note I have for John McKnight is "of Cecil Co., MD." Is this the same man as "John McKnitt"? My John McKnight married third, Martha DALE, sister of John and of James DALEs. The DALEs supposedly arrived Baltimore in 1686. The brother, John DALE, (1658-1708) is my direct ancestor. They lived in Worcester Ciounty Maryland, at Snow Hill. I think the headwaters (swamps?) of the Pokomkoe River arise in Delaware. > Araminta 277, 335 This lady would be very interesting. Araminta YOUNG was married to Ephriam Augustus HERMAN (c1685-c1736). Next she married William ALEXANDER. In his will, William Alexander mentioned a marriage settlement, dated 25 Jul 1738 [[reflecting an earlier document of 6 Jan 1738??]], between himself and his wife, Araminta. That settlement concerned an inheritance which was intended for Aramintia's son, Ephriam, son of Ephriam Augustus Herman. An interesting witness to that 1738 pre-nup testament was Mary Coursey. --Were there other children of William ALEXANDER?? --Was Araminta a widow or not, when she married Ephriam Augustus Herman?? And there was an Elizabeth ALEXANDER, who married Peter ALRICHS (1747-1789). --Who were her parents?? Here is a tree for John, a son of the Peter ALRICHS who married this Elizabeth ALEXANDER: /-- Sigfridus ALRICHS (Friesland, Netherlands) /-- Peter ALRICHS ca 1632-1697 Delaware | \-- Annetjen SMALTIUS /-- Wessel ALRICHS ca 1672 (md. in NY Dutch Church) | \-- Maria WESSELS ca 1632 of Utrecht, Netherlands /-- Peter ALRICHS ca 1700-1773 - St Georges Hundred Del | \-- Jacomyntie COUWENHOVEN (need parents!) /-- Peter ALRICHS 1747-1789 | | /-- Lawrence SKEER | \-- Mary SKEER ca 1715-1802 | \-- Lawrence SKEER's wife (unknown) John Alrichs \-- Elizabeth ALEXANDER (need parents!) Corrections or additions to the tree welcome. Help with any of these ALEXANDER questions would be very appreciated. Thanks everyone, Liz J On 11/20/06, Alan Buckingham <a.d.buckingham@verizon.net> wrote: > There are about 20 Alexander's. 3. Great. This might be my family. Thanks for the information. My ALEXANDERS were in the New Munster area. Also, when I found my little Catherine ALEXANDER living with the Abel Merritt family there was an older woman named Merritt living there, too. I thought it might be a grandmother to Catherine age 3. Maybe she is the widow named Mary in this list. I'll see if I can find a copy of the History of Cecil County and learn more. I'm really grateful for your help. 3. Ancestry has two database indexes of Maryland marriages, as part of their subscription. Both of them list the Foster Coulter marriage. One of them is the same as the one on Lois's CD. They do not contain all marriages, and records vary greatly by county. Here is Ancestry's descriptions of the two indexes: Maryland Marriages, 1655-1850 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2004. Original data: Most of the records in this index may be found at the Maryland Historical Society or the Family History Library. More specific source information is listed with each entry. Original marriage licenses should be located at the county clerk's office. Maryland Marriages, 1667-1899 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2000. Original data: See the description for original data sources listed by county. I dunno anything about Sarah, or Samuel Coulter beyond what I've posted here on this list. Hence my search continues. :-) I would really appreciate it if someone in the Cecil County area, who's going to be at the courthouse anyway, could pick up a copy of the two marriage records (Samuel Coulter to Sarah Foster and Sarah Foster to Samuel Campbell). I can probably make a small donation, but please contact me privately first so I don't get 20 copies of the document and wind up owing $200 ($10 x 20 people <grin>). My 4th great grandparents Samuel Campbell and Sarah Foster Coulter were married on that date in Cecil County, MD. It is believed that Sarah's maiden name was Foster and she was a widow of a Mr. Coulter. I got the above information from someone on one of the forums, but I wanted to confirm it, if possible with Cecil County marriage record volume # __ and page __#. If I could get a Xerox or a scan of the original certificate or a historical society published marriage book that would be the ideal, but just to know who Samuel married (Foster or Coulter) is good enough :-) Thanks, Linda Trent lindatrent@zoomnet.net ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MDCECIL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Lois~ Where did you find the Maryland Marriage Index?? Can it be purchased or is it on line?? Have made several trips to the Archives and spent hours going through index cards with grooms name and then the brides names. I was never made aware there was an index.
