Jo, Yes, that is my family. Edwin Nowland was my Great Grandfather. Edwin had 4 children - Alice, Robert, Manley and William. William died as an infant. It was actually Manley who married Della (Creswell) and those were my grandparents. I'm still not sure which house you are referring to, but it sounds like it was in the area where Edwin's sister Annie lived. She married a Walter Wood. Are those names familiar to you? Both Edwin and Mary may have lived there for a time, but I'm not sure. Since I never know where I might find a "stray" I would enjoy a copy also (waughtel@oz.net) and while I'm at it I am also interested in the WILCOX name <smile>. Folks all of the lists rejected the ship passenger list as too long in spite of the fact it's only 50 names. It is an appreciation list of passengers for their safe arrival at the port of Charleston, S.C. Someone asked me about the 1641 upriseing in Northern Ireland when I published the list and couldn't answer their question. here is a URL which mentions the 1641 upriseing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/ashorthistory/recent/ Gordon
There is quite some information regarding a Rev Richard SEWELL in Johnston's History of Cecil County Maryland, starting on p.209 He arrived in Cecil cnty in 1697. He married there in 1700 but I don't remember that his wife's name was given. He was still in Cecil cnty in 1720 when he unsuccessfully tried to secure 1000 acres of land called Knowlewood for a parish school for the children of St Stephen's parish.
This is part of a message I received from a friend in Northern Ireland in regards to my query which you might find interesting. Also by separate e mail I will send a list of 1773 passengers, which was an appreciation list and letter. This may save a lot of people some grief of searching Cyndi's list and other forever which I did myself. The emigrations of the 1700's were mostly of Presbyterians and these folk were regarded as "troublesome" by the goverment of the day. The emigrations were neither offically encouraged nor discouraged and there was no interest in compiling lists of emigrants. The most comprehensive lists that we have were compiled at the other end of the voyages. Emigration data here does exist - butnot in an ordered or comprehensive form. Next time thatr I am at PRONI I wil take a copy of their fact sheet on the subject for you. Some sources known to me are: Business records of companies involved with shipping (very few survive from the 1700's). The OS memoirs for Co. Londonderry lisy emigrants for a very few years in the region 1830-1834 for some areasd of the County. Letters of appreciation by successful emigrants published in the Belfast Newletter. I have attached an example which may be relevant to you. Note: I have the list and will put it and the accompaning letter separately on the lists since attachments aren't allowed. Gordon Crooks

This might be far fetched but here goes: My gg grandmother was Catherine ALEXANDER born in the Cecil Co. area about 1845. She married first, Reuben Bateman, probably in Cecil Co. but I can't find the record. This couple moved to NJ before 1865. After the death of Reuben, Catherine married Pernell S. Wilcutts [sometimes known as Wilcox]. It is said that Pernell was from Delaware. He was married first to Katie ? b. 1841 and whom he married bef 1858. Pernell and Katie Wilcutts had a son John Howard Wilcuttts b. 1859 in NJ. John Howard and his wife Sarah "Sadie" Ferguson Wilcutts named their children as follows: Eloise, Katie, John Howard, Jr., William Scott, Jennie and Isaac F. I have to wonder if these Wilcox names are in any way connected to my Cahterine Alexander [d/o Robert and Catherine ALEXANDER] or her second husband Pernell Wilcutts. Some of the children above appear to be carrying the names of relatives and since Isaac appears in both this family and also with the Tabitha Alexander listed, there is a remote chance of some clue. If anyone has further information on the ALEXANDERS or WILLCUTTS of this time period, I would like to compare data.
