    3. This is being passed around to alert the list of a possible SCAM... Thanks.........Tim Robinson; Baltimore, Maryland ********** I received e-mail from genseekers.com offering me a free 5 day trial so that I could find data that was in response to a message that I posted in 1998 on the Fayette Co., PA message board. I tried to get the 5 day trial to see what was available but had to give them my credit card number and then I could cancel in 5 days if I was not happy with their service. Problem is, they do no receive any e-mail at the site they send you to ([email protected]) and you do not get the login name and password needed to access their website. I have now found that this is a SCAM website and wanted to warn everyone on each of the lists I am on. I plan to call VISA tomorrow and tell them that if a charge for $59.95 for a one year membership comes thru, I am NOT going to pay it! Of course, they now have my number and can use it at their discretion so will have to cancel my account and open a new one. Big pain! BEWARE! Don't be a dumb as I was! 3. Caroline, Being a Cecil County native, I can only speculate that your Rising Sun may well now be the town of Rising Sun. I am no authority on its' history, but this is a very recognizable name. Upon that caveat; it is located in the very far northwestern part of CCM, on the PA line. It is an area of breathtaking beauty with its' high rolling hills and farmland, even to this day. Can't help you with Baker's Addition, although the descendant Bakers are still in Elkton and friends of my family. A note to anyone on the list: If you have a geographical question, post it here or email me off list and I'll be happy to help as I can. All of us Cecil Countians were very impressed with, (or were imposed), with our history and local geography in our schooling. ;-)) Any Rising Sun people out there reading this and care to chime in? 3. It has been so long since I've ordered a Deed from Cecil cnty, MD that to be truthful I've forgotten where to send for them. I'm sure someone on the list can better advise you. In a pinch you can go to http://www.usgenweb.com Click on States, Click on Maryland, Click on Counties, Click on Cecil cnty, from there look for instructions on where to order copies of what. I would also suggest you invest in an ADC Street Map Book for Cecil cnty, MD. These are EXCELLENT for taking you close in to the area you are looking. If I remember correctly they are online. A google search should bring up their URL. ADC The Map People. I have their street map books for Cecil cnty, MD and Chester & Delaware cntys, PA and have no idea how I got along without them while researching my genealogy for locations. I was able to pinpoint an ancestor's tract of 1000 acres SW of Elkton at Locust Point. If you are REALLY serious about locating exact tracts of land owned by your ancestors I would suggest purchasing DEEDMAPPER. Its a piece of software that lets you map out a tract of land using even just rods and perches from a river or other landmark. About $100. Again, they are online and you can find them via a google search. There is even a DeedMapper mailing list where you can get assistance using the program or learn to fine tune it or use its finer points. You don't have to buy their maps, there is advice on the mailing list where to get the free and/or cheaper US government maps that can be utilized by DeedMapper to construct and plot "your" tract of land. There is a project going on now where someone or several someones are trying to plot out all the original and early land patents and tracts in VA. Its fascinating, as you can start at a landmark such as a river and if one of the plot descriptions is so many rods or perches to an oak tree you can insert the oak tree in its proper position! Neat program.

He was born in Philadelphia in 1818. His father was a distinguished surgeon in the U. S. Navy. His mother belonged to a wealthy and aristocratic family of that city. When the lad was five or six years of age his father and mother for reasons satisfactory to each separated. Mrs. Jordan subsequently married Hiram Taylor and came to reside in the 6th district, Cecil County, Md. | | Young Jordan remained in Philadelphia and attended the best schools that could be found in that city. When within a few years of completing his collegiate course, his father died leaving him heir to what was considered in those days a large fortune. | | This money however he could not obtain until he should reach his majority. He therefore advertised it for sale through his guardian. | | Mr. Hiram Taylor becoming cognizant of this fact hastened to the Quaker City and became the purchaser of the young man's prospective patrimony. | | The journey to and from the distant city was performed by Mr. and Mrs. Taylor in their light family carriage drawn by one horse. When out in the lonely country, on their return trip they were attacked by two mounted masked men who had evidently followed them for the purpose of robbery and perhaps murder to accomplish their purpose. But Mr. Taylor was a man of great courage and determination and had prepared for an emergency of this kind by the purchase of two loaded revolvers. These he proceeded to use with such telling effect that the would be robber retreated without accomplishing any part of their purpose. | | After completing his college course and graduating with credit young Jordan read medicine, as was then the custom with those aspiring to its practice with one of the most eminent physicians of his day. After this he came to live with his mother and practice his profession in this county where he continued to reside until his death. He was a man of sound sense and most excellent judgment, especially in matter pertaining to his profession but possessed many peculiar ideas concerning medicines which were regarded by his fellow practitioners as mere vagaries. As long as he practiced medicine he enjoyed a large but never lucrative practice as the greater part of his later life was spent upon a small farm just on the verge of that undefined region known as the "barrens" in the Eighth district. He was twice married and leaves a family of grown children and also a widow. | | | | Thank you | | Bob Jordan | | [email protected] | | | | | | -- | Powered by Movable Type | Version 2.5 | http://www.movabletype.org/ | |

    3. Dear friends, I do not have the Peden book of the records of St. Stephens. Would some kind soul please look up the following for me: The birth dates of the children of Daniel and Mary Ann BENSON. If you have time, perhaps all the BENSON records listed. Thank you Will Brown

    3. Tim Could you check to see if there's a record of a marriage between JOHN MCKENNA and MARY ANN MURRAY. I don't have the exact year - but it would be between 1880 and 1884. Thanks! 3. I have to get out here to let everyone know together, that I have recieved ALL those look-up request, and I will get to them. I never expected such a flood of request at one time, but I will do them all, but you must understand it may take a day or 2 or maybe 3 to look through this CD. Don't worry, be happy !!
