    1. Re: [MDCECIL] Where do I go for Hall/Houston/secrist research?
    2. Dear Donna, Would you mind checking out your resources to see if there were McCulloughs in Cecil County that early? I have documented McCulloughs as of the 1850s (e.g., Jethro, Oliver; their sons and daughters). There is another line of McCulloughs found in Cecil County at that same time (e.g., Haines). They seem to have been there longer than the McCulloughs I can document. However, Haines McCullough wrote a brief family history stating that his father told him that all of the McCulloughs in Cecil County were related -- and since Jethro McCullough was the owner of the McCullough Iron Company, a MAJOR employer and very rich man, Haines would have known about the Jethro and Oliver lines. So, I am wondering if Jethro and Oliver were returning to Cecil County and their McCullough family when they moved to North East from Delaware. Their father was a weaver who lived 5 miles north of Newark on the White Clay Creek -- not so far from North East, Elkton, Colora, and other locations where Jethro's sons and Oliver's older children are found over the years, nor far from Wilmington where Jethro and his wife Elizabeth both died, and where most of Oliver's younger children ended up living. In addition, Oliver's census records list him as being born in PA, and his second marriage is listed as taking place in PA in or near New London. Again, a location very close to Newark, DE, and to North East, MD, where he and his wife Elizbabeth lived until their deaths. (Yes, they both married Elizabeths and their mother was an Elizabeth!) Maybe your references could suggest just how far back I may find myself traveling to find the beginnings of McCulloughs in Cecil County. Of course, if the list is just too long to share with me, don't worry. In that case, perhaps you could just let me know that the McCullough name is plentiful in one or both of your texts so that I could try to get copies of the books to use myself! Thanks for any help you can give me. 3. Cathy, I've been out of town and missed your query. I have "Early Anglican Church Records of Cecil County" and "Inhabitants of Cecil Co, Maryland 1649-1774" if you haven't used these as yet. I'll be glad to do a look up. 2. Rodney Hall
    3. I am researching James H. Hall born abt 1812. He was married in Cincinnati to the granddaughter of Levi Houston and Dolly Schoolfield. I believe he may be related to Ezekiel or Richard Hall both found in Cincinnati at about the same time as James and both from Maryland. I do not know where or when Richard was born but Ezekiel was born on "the Eastern Shore" in 1774 according to his tombstone. Ezekiel shows up in Cincinnati for the first time about 1805 and Levi Houston moved to Kentucky (very close to Cincinnati) before 1812. If anyone is researching Hall or Houston could you please contact me and see if we can put something together. Especially if you have an Ezekiel, Richard or James or any other Halls that disappeared from Maryland between 1812 and 1834. 2. Bob, Thanks for the reply. I have been corresponding with Jack Wells for some time and he has certainly helped me quite a bit. My expertise is the James the weaver and his son David -----which is my line. David had sons, Ezekiel (sr), Aaron, William, James and daughter Ann. I have carried this down through Ezekiel who went to Mecklenburg, NC and on down to my grandmother whose father migrated with the family to Texas about 1860. However, I still have some questions about James the weaver and also David---when and where they died (for certain) as there are no exact records of this. I believe I corresponded with you some time ago. I can't remember your line. Helen

    1. Re: [MDCECIL] Alexanders/Steeles 1700 Cecil Co.
    2. Mary, Thanks for your reply. My David Alexander, son of James Alexander weaver found in 1714 and 1718 New Munster land deeds was said to have married a Mary Steele. His nephew another James Alexander (son of Samuel) also married a Mary Steele. This was early 1700's. Do you know the progenitor of the Steele family? David, son of James was elder of Head of Christiana Church near the Delaware border. His sons, Ezekiel, William, James and Aaron all left for Mecklenburg, NC about 1750 and Aaron sold land of his father, David about 1749 from Cumberland, Pa. I believe all the brothers probably migrated to Cumberland, Pa together but have no proof. Several other Alexanders are found in Cumberland, Peter's twp. about 1751, and were probably there before that. Helen Smith

Lydia and Amos are buried at Elkton Cemetery. Mary is buried at Bethel Cemetery. Lydia may have been a daughter of David S. and Sarah (Biddle) Ward. I have no details on Amos B.'s parents. Any info on this family would be appreciated. Thanks, Melissa

    3. Hi Melissa, There are wonderful records for this church, up to the early 1900s. They are available on microfilm from the LDS and from the Maryland State Archives. I would guess that the HSCC also has a copy, but I am not certain about this. I have the film at my local FHC. May I help you with a bit of research? Georgeanne in GA
