Is anyone researching the Steeles of Cecil County? My James the weaver born about 1652 was supposedly married to a Mary Steele as inferred in the will of John Garner. Another James married another Mary Steele dau. of John Steele. He was the first son of Samuel Alexander, a brother to James the weaver. Helen Smith
Cathy, Thanks for your info. I was able to go to the Elkton library a few years back and copied material from June D. Brown's land Deeds which does state in the 1718 New Munster land deed that David was the son of James the weaver. David's wife has not been found. I investigated that connection with Susannah and was sent a copy of a land deed whereby Aaron, son and heir of David is selling the land to John Alexander of Chester co. Pa. Later, Susannah sells this land and it says she is the widow of John Alexander. I found that she and John lived in London Britain, Chester Co and found their wills in the index for that county. David was not married to a Susannah and no documentation has been found that states that. I am afraid that was material that was passed around without being verified. I had not heard of the David Alexander who was testator for a William Alexander in 1738. I wonder who that William was? Any idea? His brother William came to Mecklenburg, NC and I have seen his will which mentions Ezekiel and James as his brothers. By that time Aaron had died (died in 1771). I did see the material about David moving to Chester Co and dying there, but wonder where exactly. He was not buried at Head of Christiana, as I have investigated those graves. However the bit about his widow marrying John Dobbins could not be right because Dobbins researchers said John Dobbins was born about 1720----about same age as David's children. So now they think it was David Junior or David's son since David's daughter Ann did marry Gilbert Clark----that part is correct---and went to Cape Fear River, NC. What is your connection with the Alexanders? You seem to have a good bit of info. Thanks again, Helen Smith
Tim, Does that mean that the first structure in Lewisville was in Chester or Cecil county. I am not familiar with that area although I did travel there a few years ago. I did go by and see the new Rock Church and visited Head of Christiana, but could not find any grave for my David Alexander of New Munster.(b.circa1680-died c.1740) Some material stated that he moved to Chester County and died there and I am of the belief that it is possible that the Mason/Dixon line changed the picture. Are you at all familiar with the graveyard connected with the Rock Church? Helen
Hopefully there is someone out there who can help me? I have been searching for the family of Ann Carson for a number of years. Most of what I know about her is from the Maryland Historical Society which says that she was born in 1770 and died in 1847. My family information claimed that she was married 21 August 1790 in "St. George's, New Castle, DE" to Elias Glenn. Elias was the son of Samuel and Jane (Barnaby) Glen of Kent County and later Cecil County, Maryland. I know a little about her life with Elias as some of her diary has survived. >From the diary I know that as a girl she was sent to a boarding school in Philadelphia. She and Elias had these children: Elizabeth Renshaw Glenn; John Glenn; Mary Glenn; Elias Barnaby Glenn; William Carson Glenn; Jefferson Glenn; Jane Glenn; and Ann Glenn. The children were named for either family members or friends (obviously Jefferson). The children married as follows: John to Henrietta B. Wilkins; Mary to David Maulden Perrine; Elizabeth Renshaw to Robert Armstrong; & William Carson to Martha Elizabeth Sewall (dau of Gen James Sewall of Holly Hall, Cecil County, MD). Someone once suggested that though Ann Carson and Elias Glenn were married in Delaware, they may actually have been from Maryland. Please could someone help me? If I can share any information which I have on the Glenn's or Sewall's please contact me. Thank you for your attention and hopefully your help. NT [email protected]

Appreciate a cemetery lookup for Bing or Byng. Thank you, Caroline
Tim and others-- I am looking for cemetery listings for any BORLANDs in Cecil County, especially John (born circa 1828) or Theodore. I have the marriage record for John BORLAND and Mary Elizabeth BIDDLE on 20-Jan-1859. I am also interested in Matthew BORLAND (born circa 1818 and died before 17-Mar-1874) and his descendants. Thanks in advance for any help. Doug Arbuckle

I just wanted to mention that there are some Alexanders in Southern Lancaster County, particularly in Drumore Township and buried in the Bethesda Methodist Cemetery in Martic Township. I know it is a common name, but since it is close to the MD border, I thought it couldn't hurt to mention it. I have a David Alexander, weaver, who died bef 1749. Was one of the original purchasers of New Munster. brothers: Joseh, James, Arthur. My note says he moved to Chester Co. His son Aaron moved to Sherman's Valley according to RECORD OF THE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN ALEXANDER. I'm not sure these are all the same David. I have CC Deeds 10:124 which mentions land bought in 1718 and that his son and heir Arron sold in 1749. I have a David who was testator for William Alexander's will 29 July 1738 I have David who married Susannah and paid taxes in Cecil Co in 1752 and Back Creek Hd 1765. see also CCo deeds 9:23, 1758 re "Hispanola" Cathy ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 2:39 PM Subject: Re: [MDCECIL] Elkton, MD cemeteries > Tim, > I have been trying to locate where my David Alexander was buried about 1740. > I think he may have been connected with the Rock Church in later life.
