    3. Everyone in Maryland, Heritage Quest is available through all the public libraries in Maryland. So, everyone can get to the site using the name of their local library and their own library card. AND there's a lot more available besides the census. It looks as if they may have a few quirks to work out on the site, so read the directions and try different approaches --there's lots of good stuff there. 1. [MDCECIL] Browns connected with Alexanders
    2. To All Browns and Alexanders, My David Alexander found in New Munster land deeds of 1714 and 1718 had two sons who married Browns. My Ezekiel Sr. born 1727, son of David married a Martha, but last name unknown. In searching wills of Lancaster Co. Pa where son Aaron was found in 1749 before selling property of his father, David-----I found that a Charles Brown, wife Mary had will of 1746 which named daughters Rebecca, Jean, Mary and Martha and son named William Brown. Aaron married Jean Brown Ross, widow of Isaac Ross. William Alexander married Rebecca Brown and perhaps brother Ezekiel Sr. married a Martha Brown. It appears that many of those found early in Cecil Co. were later in Lancaster and Cumberland Co. Pa. Helen Smith

    3. I am very interested in the outcome of this also. I have a William Brown married to an Elizabeth in the early 1800's. One of their children was John Brown who later married Ann Sidwell (I think) and had three children: John T. Brown, Wilson N. Brown, and Job Brown. Is this the same family as yours?? 1. [MDCECIL] WALMSLEY
    2. Although I'm not related to this family, perhaps the following will help a little: 1860 census, Kent Co., DE, town of Dover, 2 June 1860. Dwelling 127, Family 127. Walmsley, David, 35, black, laborer, b. DE Walmsley, Sallie A., 28, wife, b. DE Walmsley, Bartina, 8, (male), b. DE Walmsley, Mary E., 7, b. DE Walmsley, George, 5, b. DE Walmsley, Asbury, 3, b. DE Walmsley, Adalaide, 8 months, b. DE Lighfoot, Betsy, age 60, b. DE (no relationship is recorded; could this be Sallie's mother? I assume the name to be LIGHTFOOT, although in the census it is spelled Lighfoot. Also in that census, in the town of Dover, is one other LIGHTFOOT surname, that of George Lightfoot, age 22, black, residing in the County Jail and listed in the census under the Sheriff.) On this census, David Walmsley is living in a neighborhood where almost all of his neighbors are also listed as Black. In addition, I find one or two names listed as "M" or Mexican, such as Rios in this area. There are a lot of Walmsley names in the 1860 and 1870 census in both Cecil Co. MD, as well as the Dover, DE, area, some listed as Black and others as White. In the 1870 census for Maryland, there are about 20 WALMSLEY names listed as heads of household, but no David or Sallie, and none listed as Black and none listed as being born in Delaware. On the 1870 census in Delaware, there are two men with the WALMSLEY name, one named John, white, born England, and another named Robert, white, born Delaware. No David Walmsley. I hope this information is helpful. I hope this helps you. Mona Sarratt Knight

    3. I have learned of a Chancery record in Cecil Co 1799 which might have very valuable information for me in my search for George Wales Moore b 1794. The name of Outerbridge Horsey is also mentioned and he was supposedly a bro-n-law or uncle of George W. The State Archives tell me that these records run 20-30 pages and I should send a check for a possible $120 for a copy. Is there anyone going to Annapolis who could, would check it out and choose those papes which would be of value to me? At 78 I'm slowing up on travel, but if I can't find someone I and my aged car, will make the 5 hour trip. I have the exact number and location of the chancery record. Cathy

    3. Walter, I have a Mounts ancestor whose family purportedly lived in Maryland before migrating to Virginia c. mid 1700's. Family legend has it that he was Blackfoot and Cherokee. I have never been able to ascertain with certainty which Mounts family he came from (he had a James Addair as guardian when he first shows up on a document at age 24 in 1809.), or find the Blackfoot and Cherokee connection in any document. The Blackfoot may have been remnant Siouan peoples such as the Saponi or Tutelo...see a site called Searching for Saponitown....I did find a pocket of All Other Free Persons on the 1790 census for Octorara Hundreds, although I am not sure what AOFP meant in that context. This area of Cecil County has an interesting history.... Best wishes. Just wanted to let you know there were others with the Blackfoot ID. Brenda

    3. Hi, all, I'm writing to ask how to get the death record for my great grandfather, Malvern H. WOOD, who died in Cecil County on May 22, 1909. Thanks to the Cecil County Historical Society, I finally have a date to go by but the Maryland Archives has temporarily stopped taking requests for vital records unless they are needed for legal reasons and their site says to obtain copies from the Maryland Department of Health, Vital Records Division. So, I got online today and downloaded the form for death certificates from the Dept. of Health. But, the form states that they do not issue records prior to 1969 for genealogical purposes and that if you want a death certificate for genealogical purposes, please contact the Maryland State Archives. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should proceed, short of hiring a researcher or driving 3 1/2 hours to the Archives? Thanks for any help you can provide.
