    1. [MDCECIL] wills

    3. When I offered to look up wills in the 15 volumes of Maryland wills by Baldwin and Wright, I used the one volume list of Maryland wills by Magruder in order to identify which of the 15 volumes I needed. Many of you have written asking for a look-up. Some were too late for the 1777 end of the volumes. The others I checked with Magruder and said, "No wills." Today as I was looking up Whitton, Witton by all spellings, I found the will date in Magruder and went to the correct volume of Baldwin to copy out the abstract for Liz. Checking the index of THAT volume I realized that Magruder only gives wills. Baldwin and Wright index all mentions of people. And I found what I consider to be two important clues for Liz, one has a legatee, and the other as a married daughter. SO-O-O-O even though I am pressed for time, I will look AGAIN for your surnames in the Baldwin and Wright volumes IF YOU CAN GIVE ME AN APPROX DATE. I would love to check all of them for all of you, but just don't have the time. These volumes are available in large libraries and LDS films, but I am willing to continue looking up as I have the time. My own research is in Cecil Co and Somerset Co, and to one request today I was able to add my own notes on the family being researched. Be glad to help when I can. Cathy

    3. William Whitam, Cecil Co will written 16 Apr 1756, probated 31 May. children: Benjamin, Grace, Rachel and Patience Whitam tract "Indian Fields" and "Bohema Manor". Lease from Benjamin Price, Peter Bayard, ending 30 Jan 1755. exc Benjamin Whitam. 30:166 Surprise! I had used Magruder's list of wills to tell me which of the 15 volumes to look for abstracts. What has happened is that I missed a valuable legatee for you. In looking for Wittom I checked Whi... in the same volume and found: will of Richard Leake, Balt Co 1673, 2:346, William Whitton is the sole legatee. I also found the will of Thomas Shelton, Bohemia Manor, Cecil Co, 1683. to Penelope Wood and to dau Elizabeth Whitten, personality. 4,23 John Witton, no county named, will written 21 Oct 1680, proven 10 Dec 1681, to eldest son William and young. son John, personality, wf Joane exc and residuary legatee. Overseers Capt Ninian Beall, Richard Gardner. ---- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2003 4:08 PM Subject: [MDCECIL] MD WIlls - WHITHAM > > > > William Whitam , 1756, 30:166. 3. There is a will for Daniel Mullin of Kent Co written 7 Aug 1759 and probated 10 Dec 1759. to wife Sarah, to grandchildren of wife: Hannah Spencer. exc Sarah Mullin and Philip Damott. There was a Thomas Mullin who was witnesses to a will in Baltimore Co, 1759. And I found the will of Wm Carven, no county given, 3 Aug 1754 which named cousin John Mullen (Mallen). I then checked Magruder for Mallen... but no wills. The Daniel was the only one listed up to 1777 for Mullin by any spelling. 3. Phil, if you are coming to Maryland and your search is for old wills, etc. then they are in Annapolis at the State Archives. After 1850 you can find records at the courthouse in Elkton. The Hist Soc in Elkton may also have valuable information for you. They have online a list of surnames in their vertical files. Since my volumes list no wills, you have to dig into orphans court records and chancery records - at Annapolis. They also have marriages for the counties from 1777.
