Unfortunately, I don't live there. :-( Thomas Herbert Shriver was the son of William and Margaret Josephine (Owings) Shriver. He was born 19 February 1846 in Union Mills, Carroll County, Maryland and died 31 December 1916 in Union Mills. He was married to Elizabeth Rosalie Lawson. "Thomas served on the staffs of both Governors Lloyd and Jackson, and gained a military title and was addressed as "General". He fought in the Civil War and attended Virginia Military Academy. He was a traveling salesman for several years and later conducted the milling business at Union Mills that had been established by his father. He had large farming and banking interests and with his brother, Benjamin F. Shriver, principal owner of the B. F. Shriver company, owning and operating a chain of factories devoted to the canning of fruits and vegetables. He was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1878 and in 1880, and elected State Senator in 1884. He was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church of Westminster. He lived at Union Mills, Carroll County, Maryland." The above information is from Richard Henry Spencer, LL. B., "Genealogical and Memorial Encyclopedia of the State of Maryland, A Record of the Achievements of Her People in the Making of a Commonwealth and the Founding of a Nation", (New York: The American Historical Society, Inc., 1919). 3. We have transcription dating back to 1889 on the MD Tombstone Transcription Project http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/md/carroll/cemeteries/stjohn.txt for St. John's Catholic Cemetery which seems to be at 49 Monroe Street, Westminster. If Sarah is still on the list the William buried there is possibly the father of Thomas Herbert Shriver. 3. The William that is buried at St. John's and who died in 1879 is Thomas Herbert's father. He was born in Littlestown, Adams County, Pennsylvania and died in Union Mills.
