I read in Ed Porter's book, Porters of Colonial Maryland, that John Porter had a farm near Carrollton. He also said his children were born in Carrollton and that he was also buried there. The birth and death dates attributed to him were taken from his tombstone, according to Ed Porter. By chance, have you ever found anything to confirm any of this? Also, Jim Ryan has found a reference to Porter's Post Office on an 1877 map, at the intersection of route 26 and hwy 97 (in District 5, the "Freedom District" of Carroll Co.). He has also found a reference to Porter's Tavern in what appears to him to be the same spot (ref: page 697 of Scharf's History of Western Maryland). If John Porter's burial site still exists, I would like to find it. And where is it in relation to the crossroads mention above? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. Ann
