In 1956 "The Loats Female Orphan Asylum" of Frederick City closed. In a court case of 1957-1958 the descendants of John D. Loats and Lewis Loats (they mainly lived in Carroll County) sued to get the land returned to them; they were unsuccessful. Following is a list of the names.
