FYI Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com to Combine Ancestry World Tree and WorldConnect Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com will be combining their public family tree databases to create the largest family tree offering available online. All of the family trees currently available through Ancestry World Tree and WorldConnect will be available from both sites. The combined database will include more than 150 million names once the integration is complete. The combination of these databases will give Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com users access to the largest database of free family trees available online. Although the value of this database will continue to grow as more trees are added, Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com are still committed to providing free access to this valuable collection. Additionally, the data submitted to the collection will never be sold on CD-ROM. Family data files will remain the property of the submitter. The integration of the databases will also make finding leads and collaborating with other genealogists even easier. The combined offering will have all of the functionality that RootsWeb.com users currently enjoy on WorldConnect, which includes a number of reports that have not been available in the past on Ancestry.com. These reports include the following: descendancy, register, and ahnentafel reports. The new implementation will also include "Post-em" notes, which allow users to make comments on the information they find. All active files in the Ancestry World Tree and WorldConnect will be included in the new database. The Ancestry World Tree has been available on Ancestry.com since 1997, and WorldConnect was launched on Rootsweb in October 1999. The new, integrated site is expected to be available within the next week. Stay tuned to the "Ancestry Daily News" for details on the launch! Brenda K.
