Bish who was born in Carroll County. Noah is son of William Bish, son of Adam Bish, Jr., son of Adam Bish, Sr (who immigrated to the New World from Germany to York County, PA. GEORGE W. BISH, Dayton Financier, business man and public official, George W. Bish has a record of long and competent service in public offices, and his private interests to-day embrace much successful enterprise of the most constructive type. In brief, Mr. Bish, as a citizen and as a civic servant, is recognized as one who pursues a common aim of actual service. Public progress is represented as well in the workings of the Union Building & Loan Association, of which he is assistant secretary and general manager, as in the office of city commissioner, whose duties he pays the respect of intelligent industry and of great practical experience. Mr. Bish is also a director and vice president of the Acorn Home Company, which has added substantial advance to the general progress of this city, having developed many residential plats and contributed an important impulse to the expansion of the best type of residence communities. George W. Bish was born in Dayton, November 13, 1871, the son of Noah T. and Sarah C. (Clemmer) Bish, and was educated in the public schools of Dayton. On leaving school he entered business with his father, a successful merchant of this city, and for more than twenty years was associated with him in the grocery business. George W. Bish was elected city auditor of Dayton in 1908, an office he filled for four years. In 1917, he entered on the office of county auditor of Montgomery County, disposing of the grocery business. In 1923, he terminated his service as county auditor and, having then for more than ten years been a director of the Union Building & Loan Association, he became general manager of that institution and was made its assistant secretary. His administrative duties in the Union Building & Loan Association to-day constitute his principal interest. In 1925 he was elected to the Board of Commissioners of the city of Dayton, and has brought to that office an experience with public administration which is well leavened by the thorough knowledge of business practices derived from his wide interests in the business life of Dayton for a quarter of a century. During the World War, he contributed valuable service to the civilian war work as chairman of the Food Commission. He is a member of the Masonic Bodies, including Scottish Rite (Thirty-Second Degree) and Shrine; is a past commander of Reed Commandery, Knights Templar, and a member of the Noontide Club; is a member of Miami Lodge No. 32, Knights of Pythias and the Triangle Club; the Odd Fellows, the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and other societies, civic and social.
