I have also been led to believe that one of the sons was a Dunkard minister. Any info would be helpful.

For everyone on Carroll List, In Maryland Birth and Death Records were not required until 1875 for Baltimore City and 1898 for all Counties in Maryland. These records are referred as Vital Records in Maryland and and Vital Records proir to 1953 are archived at the Maryland Hall of Records(MHR) aka State Archives in Annapolis, Maryland. The MHR has online Maryland Vital Records Indexing Project for Baltimore City and All (23) Counties and they are planning to put up Birth and Marriages Indexes in the future. THIS IS NOT THE DEATH CERTIFICATE! These cards were on indexes of death in Maryland and depending on the year of death, what info is on the cards (for Counties) or ledger (for City). For Counties, death in 1898 to 1941, is online, info on cards is name of deceased, date of death, race, age and place of death, County name only. These cards/pages are scanned in by volunteers. Maryland State Archives Homepage http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/ Maryland Vital Records Indexing http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/index.cfm If you are looking for Birth and Deaths before 1875/1898, you will need to check for Church records of Baptisms and Christenings and Burials/Funerals. If you are lucky enough to have a Family Bible is another source. The 1900 Census asked the Month and Year of their birth. Hope this has help in your search, Sue Bundy

Hi Sue and List: I'm taking shots in the dark trying to get information from 8 Maryland counties on availability of birth records. I am researching the Wallace family for my friend Ron Wallace in California. His ggg-grandfather Jacob Wallace was born in Maryland, married someone (no name), and had at least 2 sons in Pennsylvania, James and Francis. Jacob's son, and Ron's gg-grandfather, was Francis S Wallace, married to Elizabeth Warrington (both born PA) in Belmont County, Ohio in 1829. Jacob was listed on their marriage record as a witness and testator to Francis' age. I pulled a 1776 map of the US plus a map of the Mason-Dixon line off the Internet, looking for the counties that border PA. (My own family comes from Waynesboro, PA on the Mason-Dixon line so I am vaguely familiar with the MD-PA connections). All I know about Jacob is his approximate year of birth (1777-78) and possible state (MD, although another source says MD or Ireland!). I have no idea what faith they practiced, so searching church records would be quite cumbersome without prior information on their denomination. Anyone else possibly researching Wallace families during the 1770'S in Carroll County? Judy in Wisconsin -----Original Message----- From: Sue Bundy [mailto:rbundy@carr.org] Sent: Saturday, November 05, 2005 11:05 PM To: MDCARROL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDCARROLL] Birth Records in Carroll County To Judy Ramsay, Carroll County was formed in Jan. 1837 out of parts of Frederick County and Baltimore County. Birth records and Death records were started in 1898 by the State but, of course their are the baptisms records through the churches. So, if you know where they were living in 1776/1778 in the now Carroll County, say for example they lived in the Silver Run or Union Mills area, that would had been Frederick County in 1776/1778 there is a good chance they were Lutherans and there are excellent records from St. Mary's Lutheran and Reformed Church records that has been published. If they lived in the Manchester/Hampstead area, that would had been Baltimore County and again, the Lutheran records are excellent for the Manchester area for that time period. So, what family are you looking into and do you know the time period that they stayed here and the area in Carroll County? There are many people on the list that will help you once they see who you are looking for, possibly family lines they are working on!
