The former almshouse in Westminster is now the Carroll County Farm Museum. It is located on Center street, across from the Carroll County Hospital Center. Information about the almshouse could be obtained from the Historical Society, the Genealogical Society or the public library for that county. Don't know whether old "resident" records still exist.
Can anyone share with me information on an Almshouse in Carroll Co., MD in about 1880? Would there be a website? Jean
Chris- Lydia SHEA, age 42, is listed at the Almshouse also. Listed as seamstress. Perhaps she is Charles mother or grandmother. there are not other Sheas listed in Carroll Co MD in 1880. I'll ck 1900. Email me directly and I'll let youy know if I found anything. My finace great great grandfather Charles Shea who was born in 1879 was located at the Almshouse in Westminster in the 1880 Census. Would there be any records in the Orphan Court records on Charles Shea (b. 1879)? He was only about a year old when found at the Almshouse.. Thanks, Chris Smithson __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
Good Morning List members Looking for information for a Mary King that I saw on line listed in cemetery names at St.Mary's Silver Run Md. Would any one have the Church records. On the web site it only has her name no dated listed. request #2 Dose any one have a picture of Bixlers Church Carroll County Thank's to all Nancy jan1940@wpa.net
For some reason the message I had posted today was scrambled so I have resent the message. Mary, I appreciate the Theiret information regarding Lizzie Theiret’s baptism in 1877. I believe her parents are John Michael Theiret b. 2 May 1838 in Germany, m. 1 Jan 1874 in Germantown, d. 6 Feb 1914 in Manchester, Carroll Co., MD and Mary Fritz b. 15 Apr 1851 somewhere in MD and d. 15 Mar 1908 in Manchester, Carroll Co., MD. Do you know if there would be marriage records for 1874 when Lizzie’s parents were married in Germantown? What about death records in Manchester? I don’ t know when Lizzie and Harvey Wirtz were married. My mother-in-law was Lizzie’s seventh child (Ruth Elizabeth Wirtz born 11 Feb 1909) so I would assume the marriage was in the 1890s. I don’t even know the birthdays for the other nine children. Any information anyone has on the Theiret family would be appreciated. Wayne

I should have sent this to the list too. I have tons of information on the Gassaways and will look up to see if I have what you are searching for. Jim I have the Sumans well documented back to Peter Suman b 1730 in Germany d 1781 in Frederick not by choice. It is his father-in-law who is the Miller, Michael Miller to be exact. My Clark direct information begins with Charity Clark who married Josiah Hitchcock around 1779 in Hartford County. This is also where the Hitchcocks seem to be from. However, their daughter Eleanor married John W. Watkins in Frederick 1829. I do not have Charity's parents. I do have other Clarks who marry into the Watkins who all lived around the four corners (Howard/Montgomery/Frederick/Carroll) Damascus/Mt Airy area. Now the Snyders-I am unsure of. I have my gggrandmothers death certificate that states her father was Henry Snyder and her mother was Nancy Musgrove. Mary Snyder was born Oct 15, 1839 which would have her father being born around 1810. Mary Snyder was born in the Howard District of Anne Arundel County-or was living in Howard County when she married James Pinkney Barnes in 1863. So any help is appreciated. Jane, I would also like to know which Snyder you are researching. Our Maria "Margaret" (aka Magdalena) Greenwood, b. March 30, 1758, married Frederick George Snider, Sr., before 1779, in the part of Frederick county that is now Carroll. I am also interested in the Gassaway family. I am attempting to connect our Catherine Greenwood, b. July 2, 1782, to a John Gassaway from that area. On February 4, 1805, he married a Catherine (Kitty) Greenwood in Shelby Co., KY, but I can't prove it's our Catherine. I know they both ended up in Shelby Co., KY. Our Catherine was the daughter of Philip (b. 1755) Greenwood and his first wife, Mary. Philip was the older brother of Margaret Greenwood mentioned above. All I know for sure about John Gassaway is that he died between May 19 - June, 1826, in Shelby Co., KY. I believe he is the John Gassaway who inherited from his father "Talbot's Resolution Manor" along with his brothers, Benjamin and Robert. Children of Gassaway and Greenwood are: Rachel, Samuel, Uriah, David, William, Benjamin, Nancy, Rebecca, and Richard. Is anyone else researching these people?
