    2. On 10/2/2006, Jim Snyder asked: "Is there an exchange of information group for "Maryland German"?.. ie [MDCARROLL]MD Germans?" Reply: If you go to this web page......... http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Ethnic-German/ ......you will find a list of German Lists on Rootsweb. 2. On 10/2/2006 Barbara Hewitt wrote: " Just curious to see if you have run across the spelling of Gorsage in your searches. There are some Gorsages connected to my Harris family. I think I have some info on this family if it matches anywhere" reply: I am sure that's the same surname as Gossage/Gorsuch. Spelling meant so little back then & surnames were butchered - sometimes with 2 different spellings in the same document. Usually, one spelling stuck by the 1850s or so. Try looking in the MD area of Baltimore, Carroll, Dorchester, Harford, Anne Arundle, Talbot & Queen Anne's counties. Most were in Baltimore co. (part of which is now Carroll - as we all know). Good luck to you. -Donna

    2. On 9/29/2006, I posted a message with these surnames on the bottom: CRISWELL, DAVIS, GOSSUCH, HEADINGTON Someone responded and asked whether it was GORSUCH or GOSSAGE. I'm having trouble with the format & don't know who asked the question, but I have an answer. To my knowledge, GORSUCH & GOSSAGE are interchangeable. My GOSSAGE connection is through a NICHOLAS GOSSAGE & his wife, SUSANNAH DAVIS. This couple was married in Baltimore, MD and presumably lived on the farm in what is no Carroll co., MD with my ancestor, RICHARD CRISWELL and his wife of unknown name. Most people think RICHARD CRISWELL's wife's maiden name was DAVIS. In RICHARD's pension petition, SUSANNAH (DAVIS) GOSSAGE, states that she is his niece by marriage. She also states that he fought a second tour in the Army (Revolution) in place of his brother, ANDREW. ANDREW's surname is not given in the petition, so the surname could be CRISWELL, DAVIS or GOSSAGE/GORSUCH. NICHOLAS & SUSANNAH (DAVIS) GOSSAGE moved from Carroll co., MD with RICHARD CRISWELL to Brooke co., VA where the petition for Rev. War pension was heard. A Baptist minister, named NICHOLAS HEADINGTON also came with them & testified at the pension petition in Brooke co., VA. Those 3 surnames plus OGG are all connected through marrying each other. RICHARD CRISWELL: parents: Probably RICHARD CRISWELL & MARY WOODEN born: 3/4/1744 Baltimore, Baltimore county, WV died: 1/25/1838 Ohio county, VA (now WV) residences: Baltimore co., MD; What is now Carroll co., MD; Brooke co., VA (now WV); Ohio co., VA (now WV) Best Wishes, Donna Criswell Mollaun <tmollaun@aol.com>

    3. Back in the late 70's there was resturant called Gorsuch (sp) in Baltimore up in Hampden. There was a street called that also. I think Cal Ripken ended up buying the place. But maybe someone might remember if anyone of that name still lives in the area.

    3. I am trying to find out if this is the Houck family line that moved to Pennsylvania in the 1700s. My. GGGGG-grandfather, William S. Brown (his wife was Ruth Lane, d/o Rev. Samuel Lane from that same area) sold his PA land to his neighbor, named Houck, in the year 1810. My 5th-grandfather was in Ohio when he sold his land to Houck. It is believed he was resident in then Baltimore County on land used to form Carroll County near to today's Lawndale, MD. Brown's seem to have a long term relationship with the Lanes, Clarks, Coles and other of that area. What places have you used (other than the MD Archives which I have exhausted) where you have had success? Looking for: Vitals (birth, death, marriage) and land records Thanks for reading this.
