Posted on: Carroll County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/Carroll/10149 Surname: Hall ------------------------- Birth and Death certificates were not issued by the State of Maryland for the Counties until 1898 and for Baltimore City, they started in 1875. For dates of Births and Deaths earlier then 1898, you will need to try to find what Church of Faith they belong to...Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic, Quaker etc. Carroll County was formed from Western part of Baltimore County and an Eastern part of Frederick County on 19 Jan 1837. So any records, marriages, Last Wills, Land Deeds, Chancery etc would be in the early counties before 1837. I had check into a few of my resources here and this is what I have found on your Hall's/Renshaw's in Carroll County. 1850 Carroll County Census Woolery(4th)District 4 September 1850 Page 198B Line 16 426/411 Arthur Renshaw 41 m w Farmer Md Line 17 Elizabeth 41 f w Md Line 18 MARY E. 17 f w Md Line 19 Joseph 16 m w None Md Line 20 William 15 f w Md Line 21 James H. 12 m w Md Line 22 John 8 m w Md Line 23 Sarah J. 4 f w Md Line 24 NELSON HALL 24 m w Blacksmith Md This is the only RENSHAW family in Carroll County on the 1850 Census. Proir to 1837, the Woolery, Hampstead, Freedom and some parts of Manchester Districts would had been Baltimore County. For Samuel Hall, had you check the Morality Schedule for 1860 for Baltimore County/City? This will give you the Ward/ District that Samuel died in and you might have a better chance of finding his burial place and maybe a church cemetery, that might be their church of worship. 1860 Carroll County Census Index (I do not have the 1860 Census just the Index) Hall, Nelson Manchester(#6)District Page 886 Hall, Mary '' '' '' Hall, Aovnfield '' '' '' Hall, John '' '' '' Hall, Lillis '' '' '' Hall, Marion Manchester(#6)District Page 886 There was no Renshaw's in the 1860 Carroll County Census Index. I had check the Carroll County Cemeteries books for the Woolery/Hampstead/Manchester and there was no Nelson Hall or Arthur Renshaw families listed. I hope this information will be of some help to you and good luck in your search.
In the December 2000 issue of The Carrolltonian Newsletter, there was an article that the second edition of "JOHN BIXLER, Pioneer, Immigrant, Farmer" by Agnes Bixler Kurtz is available from ABK Publications in Hanover, NH. There was no pricing information given. Apparently, ABK Publications either doesn't have a phone or the number is unlisted as I have not been able to find one. Does anyone know the cost (including shipping) of the book so that I can order one? Thanks. Vanessa [email protected] My genealogy page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vstern
