I forgot to mention Yingling. Judy in Oregon
I have found info on Bar (Baer, Bahr), Dickensheets, Dotterer, Frock, Hoff(Huff), Lippy, Study and Unger in a book called "Maryland German Church Records" Volume 7- Saint Mary's Lutheran Church, Silver Run-Lutheran Records 1784-1863- Reformed Records 1812-1866. If you are interested in any of it let me know and I will type it up and send it to you. If you have info on this families I would like to gain that info as well. Thanks, Judy in Oregon
This was in the Carroll County newspaper of 9 August 1838. Can anybody identify this road? "Road Notice: Henry Houck, John Furhman, John Smeach, George Weaver of Henry, and John Weaver filed their petition to open a public road in Carroll County to commence at the Pennsylvania and Maryland line near the dwelling house of Henry Houck and thence running throughe his land and that of John Furhman, John Smeach, Mrs. Catharine Bender, J. Henry Hoppe (formerly Killea's), George Weaver and John Weaver to intersect the Turnpike Road from Manchester to Hanover at or near the 34th milestone on said road, opposite John Weaver's dwelling house. Samuel W. Myers, John Wentz & Phillip Crumrine, commissioners." 9 August 1838
I have a land record for "my" Gershom Huff in which he bought property from two women; Lavina(Luvina) Yingling and Ella Wantz. I believe that Ms. Yingling was the wife of William H. Yingling since there is a Luvina Yingling wife of William listed in my Carroll Co Cemetery book. If this is true then her maiden name would have been Wantz. It says in the deed that these two women are executors for the late David Wantz. The deed is dated 7-24-1889. Does any one have anymore info on this Wantz family or perhaps Ms. Lavina(Luvina) Yingling ? Judy

Posted on: Carroll County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/Carroll/10223 Surname: LOATS, DULL, WILSON ------------------------- I'm trying to track descendants of Lydia A. Elizabeth Wilson, the first wife of Lewis H. Loats. Lydia was born August 12, 1836 and died before 1872; Lewis was born October 28, 1833 and died October 26, 1916. They had two children: 1. Charles L. Loats b. April 29, 1861 died November 15, 1950, buried in Manchester Cemetery. He was married to Anne G. Kephart in the 1900 census - they had been married ten years (May 8 1890) and had no children. He is buried with a second wife, Irene M. Loats. Were there any children of either of these marriages? 2. Agnes V. Loats was born June 16, 1867. I have been told she may have married a man named DULL but no further information has been provided. Did she have children? Also interested in more information about Lewis H. Loats and wife Lydia. I noticed that there was a Lewis H. Loats in the civil war out of Ohio, so perhaps they moved there and perhaps Lydia died there and is buried there. Any information welcome and I have information to share.
Seeking information on a marriage between Charles Wilson and unknown, event occured between 1795 to 1797. Charles lived in Mt. Joy Twp. Adams County and is buried with his first wife Esther Smith at Piney Creek Cemetery near Harney. Thanks, Martha

Are there any researchers working on ECKENRODE, RIGHTER OR RICHTER? Thanks for your help, Andrea
Hello My name is Blake Stough, and I trying to save one of the country's most valuable historic landmarks. Camp Security, located east of the City of York, in Springettsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania, is the last remaining prisoner-of-war camp from the Revolutionary War. The camp consisted of a stockade prison and a village area. This village area was where model prisoners and their families were located. Prisoners were able to work for local residents, due to a "parole" program. This reduced the need for camp supplies. Tim Pasch, a local developer, would like to purchase this site to build $300,000 homes. While a small portion of the site would be undeveloped, it would be surrounded by homes, and under control of the homeowners association. This would make it impossible for any future study of the site. In 2000, Camp Security was listed as one of Pennsylvania's most endangered sites by Preservation Pennsylvania. The story of the camp is kept alive by local legend and written documents. There was an archaeological study done at the site in 1979, which resulted in the discovery of domestic and military artifacts. Archaeological study's were also done in 2000, which revealed earthworks associated with the camp. This study also showed how large the Camp Security site is. This evidence proves Camp Security has local and national significance and meets requirements to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Camp Security has all the means to tell the story of Revolutionary War prisons, and also York County's role in the war. One thing we can learn is how the prisoners lived and interacted with the local residents. The artifacts found to date, and the others that still lie in the ground, can be studied and used to tell the story of the war, as well as the lives of the men that lived there. My ancestor, John Andreas Stauch, more commonly known as Andrew Stough, was a guard at Camp Security. His pension records document his service, as well as his duties at the camp. I was not an active part of this fight until just recently. There are no buildings or related landmarks to see anymore, and that causes people to forget what was once there. I was one of those people, but realized how wrong I was. I recently met with Ron Bissett, who also had an ancestor at the camp. Ron traveled to the area from his residence in Canada. He came to see the site where Camp Security stood, and also see what can be done to save the site. Ron and I have many things in common when it comes to this topic. Both of our ancestors were named Andrew, as well as our 5th great-grandfather. They were also at the camp at the same time, mine as a guard, and his as a prisoner. We walked the site together as friends, while our ancestors did the same, as enemies. This made it very emotional for both of us. I am asking for your assistance in saving this historic treasure. By developing this site, we will be destroying part of our nations history. On May 24, 2001, at 6:30PM, the Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisor's will be voting on this issue. Mr. Pasch's agreement with the properties owner expires at the end of May. After that, the owner will not make further arrangements with the developer, but will sell the property to someone that will preserve the site. Your assistance with this matter is needed. I will be attending the meeting on May 24 to voice my concerns. I hope you will voice your as well. If you cannot attend, I will gladly submit your opinion in letter form. I have done this in the past with other issues, and the result was positive. You may send letters to me via email or my mailing address. Feel free to contact me at any time. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Blake Stough 227 Rockdale Ave. York, PA 17403 (717) 848-4073 [email protected]

My great-grandfather, Simon Peter Bish, whose roots were in Carroll County, died in Baltimore. His death certificate states that he was buried in Westminster on 18 NOV 1898. The undertaker was James M. Stoner. I have been unable to find the cemetery where he was buried. I am wondering if anyone knows of this undertaker, and whether the burial records are available. His obituary states that he was taken from Baltimore to Westminster by train. I suppose the undertaker could be located in Baltimore.
