Could you be so kind as to see what you can find in your book on Crouses. I would appreciate it very much. I am at the wall at the end of the 1700s. Maybe I can find a clue there but anything might help me fill in some blanks. Thanks, Wayne in Florida ([email protected],net)

    3. Jane, Leo T Essom, grandfather to this Charles, married into my Huff line. I am not a direct Essom descendant but have interest in them. Therefore the Loats line is even a further stretch. I would like to help, but am afraid I have no info to offer. However I will share anything that I do have. I know that Leo and Sophia seemed to move quite a bit between Adams Co and Carroll Co. their son Charles W. Essom, I don't know much about and then there is Charles Essom Jr. I know that Sophia Huffs father was a well known man and owned several properties along the Pa/Md boarder. Also there are Yingling's and Bankard's that married into my Huff line as well. Let me know if I can help in any way. Do you have access to Florence Essay's obit ? I would love to have a copy. Judy

Born in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Flores Loates Essom Sr. I had just been thinking about this Florence Essom, wondering which Loats family she belonged to. I have been following the Loats family and was sent, by Dorothy Walsh, the list of people below, who were in 1958 subject to an easement in Frederick. I can identify eight of these people as descendants of Lewis L. Loats. Note that Florence L. Essom is the first on the list. She was also first on the list of Loats descendants who tried to regain title to John H. Loats' home in Frederick after the orphanage he established by his will failed. Their suit failed and the building is now the Frederick Historical Society. But most of the Loats (and Dull and Zentgraf) descendants lived in Carroll County. I want to hear from other Loats researchers... To the Sheriff of Carroll County, Greeting: You are hereby commanded to summon Florence L. Essom (Westminster); Irene Loats, (Manchester); Howard H. Loats, (Manchester); Milton E. Dull, (Westminster R. 4); Naomi C. Bollinger, (Finksburg R. 1), Mildred V. Yingling, (Westminster R. 4); Wilbur C. Dull, (Westminster, R. 4); Charles R. Dull, (East Main St., Westminster); Emanuel J. Dull, (Westminster, R. 5); Viola V. Bankard, (Westminster R. 4); Arthur E. L. Dull, Jr., (Westminster, R. 4); Clarence Loats, (Manchester); David F. Loats, (Hampstead); Joseph E. Zentgraf, (Carrollton); Elsie M. Reed, (Greenmount); Elizabeth E. Smith, (Greenmount), of Carroll County, to the Circuit Court for Frederick County on the 5th day of May, 1958, commanding them to show cause, if any they have, within 15 days thereafter why the rights-of-way or easements aforesaid ... should not be condemned and acquired.
