    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CFB.2ACI/173.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Sorry, David b. 1798 in MD is as far back as I go. I did see Adam on the 1850 census and wondered if he could be a brother- the dates would work. David's wife is listed as Laurena Gilbert- a cousin, perhaps? All of their children were born in New Windsor Dist., so David and Adam could definitely be related. I have been finding good info on RLDS Family Search- the birthdate I had for David was "abt. 1810", but after seeing his age on the 1850 cesus as 52, checked for a 1798, and found him b. Nov. 22, 1798. Will keep looking- maybe we're on to something! Regards, Patty Limpic

    1. [MDCARROLL] 1877 Railroad Businesses in Taneytown?
    2. Donald Fair
    3. Hello Listers, I am interested if anyone on this list may have information about the "Frederick and PA Railroad" in Taneytown during the late 1800's and early 1900's. I have a map from the 1877 Atlas that lists three businesses with rail sidings, one is a Lime Kiln owned by George A. Flickinger and the second is another Lime Kiln owned by T. H. Eckenrode and the third is a Machine Shop owned by W. T. Haugh who built and sold Thrashing machines and other types of farm equipment. The map also shows a brick yard (no name attached) on a lot next to a railroad siding. My question is since there are several Lime Kilns listed, were these used to produce lime for use in the iron and steel industry or was the lime used as field topping for the agriculture industry of this time period? Thanks Don Fair, Mechanicsburg, PA

    1. [MDCARROLL] John "Jack" North, B: 1830 and 1900, England, living in Baltimore City and surrounding communities
    2. TwoWolvesDancing
    3. Hello. I need some help with my 4th or 5th great-grandfather - John "Jack" North, born in England, between 1830 and 1900, and lived in Baltimore City, Maryland and/or surrounding communities... I found some of the links to Florence's parents and grandparents. My great-grandmother - Florence Virginia (Fury) Linder believed that she was John "Jack" North's great niece. So this means that John "Jack" North would have been her grandfather's brother or is it her great-grandfather's brother. Now, since my great-grandparent's birth years are in and around 1870-1878 and my grandparent's birth years are in and around 1878-1898... I am guessing that John "Jack" North was born in England somewhere between 1870 and 1898... depending on the generation. Virginia said at the time, in the 1930's that she knew someone (elderly) who also knew John "Jack" North as well... so that gives you a time frames that he was alive and living in Baltimore City or surrounding area. But, if this old man was in his 90's in 1930, then John "Jack" North could have also been born anytime after 1830 and had died before 1930. So, let's look between 1830 and 1900 in the Maryland Census Records, starting in Baltimore City and surrounding communities.. Family stories state that my maternal great-grandmother - Florence Virginia (Fury) Linder believed that she was John "Jack" North's great niece. Now my great-grandmother was Florence Virginia Fury (B: 03/12/1874 - D: 12/26/1945) who married George William Linder (B: 01/29/1873 - D: 09/27/1946). The 1900 Census said that they lived at W. Franklin St, Ward 21, Baltimore, MD. Florence Virginia (Fury)'s parents were William H. Fury (B: VA, 1834 - 1896) and Clarissa (G. or Olivia which was listed on her Confirmation Record) (Brooks) Fury (B: MD, 1841 - 1911). Now, since we do not have the North surname today. We must be related to the North family through a marriage of a female descendent or that they did not have children. However, the family believes that they did. This part of the family at the time of Virginia' death were living in Baltimore City and in the surrounding communities. William H. Fury (B: VA, 1834 - 1896) Florence Virginia Fury (B: 03/12/1874 - D: 12/26/1945) Clarissa Olivia (Brooks) Fury (B: MD, 1841 - 1911) George William Linder (B: 01/29/1873 - D: 09/27/1946) I would be willing to exchange family information as it becomes available. Thank you in advance for any help given. God bless. Peace and blessings. Dolores Cobb Phifer John "Jack" North, B: 1830 and 1900, England, living in Baltimore City and surrounding communities

I can find James in 1850 Carroll Co. Taneytown Twp census records 14 yrs old but he is living with the family of Barbara Knox. This Barbara Knox of Taneytown must be a widow and James Ohler is listed as a farmer laborer. Then in 1860 Carroll Co. Taneytown Twp. I find James Ohler age 25 yrs. living with the same family. Only now Barbara Knox's son, John R. Knox owns the farm and James Ohler is listed once again as a laborer. >From the 1900 census record, I find James Ohler now living in Balto County with his wife, Mary according to this census they were married abt. 1866. Info. found on the Ohler family from Frederick County Backgrounds, Biographies shows that the family ancestor was a Phillipp Jacob Ohler who immigrated to PA in 1768 and migrated to Maryland, Carroll County and Frederick Counties. Anyone researching this Ohler family I would like to share information. I know when James Ohler died and I plan to apply for death cert to see if it lists the names of his parents.
