Arter was burned on the face, arms, back and feet during a grease fire June 17 at their home and the help and concern of neighbors and strangers has been \'93overwhelming\'94 \par \par Arter Family:\par Friends Help In Recovery\par Littlestown--The long road to recovery has been a little easier to travel for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arter, Plunkert Rd., thanks to their friends and a few warm-hearted strangers. They received encouragement from friends, relatives and co-workers after Mr. Arter suffered severe burns on his face, arms, back and feet during a grease fire June 17. They also received time and help in the clean-up and reconstruction job on the house, especially the kitchen, which sustained $5,000 damage in the fire. \'93I didn\'92t\'92 even know some of the people who came out here to help me get the house ready for him to come home to,\'94 she said. In addition to trying to repair and clean the house, Mrs. Arter took several trips to Washington, D.C., where h! er husband was a patient at Walter Reed Army Hospital for 22 days. Most of that time was spent in the intensive care burn center. \'93They left him come home when they did because they know I was a nurse,\'94 she explained. \'93We had to hurry to get the house finished, because I was afraid he might be exposed to infection, if the house wasn\'92t good and clean.\'94 Mrs. Arter, who works at Golden Age Nursing Home, says she owes a great debt to the staff and admin8istration of the home, who helped care for her and provided much of the clean-up manpower at the house. \'93There were days I was here from 6 a.m., and those people were here with me until midnight,\'94 she said. Another debt she says can\'92t be measured in dollars is owed to their carpenter and his wife, who, she says, worked endless hours to prepare the house for Mr. Arter\'92s return home. Mr. Arter, who retired from the armed forces in 1968, has not yet totally recovered from the experience, and he must! return periodically to the hospital for checkups and care. Although the progress has been slow, it has been successful. Mrs. Arter says the burns have healed rather well, in spite of several small spots of infection which did develop. Still, the healing process is far from complete. Mr. Arter\'92s feet, which suffered third degree burns, are still very sensitive and need close watching and care. His feet received such severe burns because the grease which caught fire spilled on the floor of the kitchen as he attempted to carry it outside. He then spent 15 minutes on his feet attempting to extinguish the blaze with the assistance of James Reaver, Littlestown volunteer fire company, who was the first on the scene at the time of the accident. Despite the wave of concern and help from friends and family, it has been a difficult experience to live through, and Mr. and Mrs. Arter both agree its one they would choose not to repeat.\par } --0-772969061-1014920234=:45709--

Most of these obituaries were taken from The Evening Sun in Hanover, PA and others were taken from the Balitmore Sun. These date back to the early 1900's. 3. To Todd Z, The official date for State certificates of birth and death for all counties in Maryland started in 1898, and for Baltimore City in 1875. So, the only register for births prior to 1898, is though church records. Do you have an idea of what denomination your ancestors were? The earliest published Lutheran records, that has been translated from German to English, are the Maryland German Church Records that has been translated and edited by C.T. Zahn and Frederick S. Weiser and they published and sold by Historical Society of Carroll County, 210 East Main Street, Westminster, Md. 21157 http://www.carr.org/hscc/ Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~mdcarrol/church/html to get a outline of the churches, their time period and areas each volume covers there are 4 volumes for Carroll County Lutheran records so far. For Methodist records, they have not been published, but some of the Methodist Churches has allowed for their records to be photocopied and there are copies in the Carroll County Genealogical Society collections and at the Historical Society of Carroll County research library collections. Carrol County Genealogical Society homepage http://www.carr.org/ccgs/ccgs.html Catholic records has not been published, but you can contact them and they will look through their records for you. If you need the addresses and phone numbers for these Catholic Churches, there are 2 that was here starting in 1789 and 1796, please let me know and I will send you that info. If you can let me know what area you are looking into; I might be able to give you specific churches for that area. Sue Bundy MDCARROL-List list manager/volunteer

They are both listed in the Baltimore City Directory from 1895 to 1900. I assume he died between 1900 and 1920. Does anyone know where Manchester Cemetery is, and if they are online?
