Could someone please check cemetery inscriptions for Carroll County for Jackson McComas (b. c1818, d. 1880-1887) and his wife, Sarah McCullough McComas (b. c1820, d. 1887)? I have Vol 4 Northeast, but not the others. Jackson is a mystery to me. He and Sarah lived in Balto County between 1850-1870, then were in Balto City in 1880. However, I can't locate info on his death. Sarah's death certificate shows she died in Balto City in 1887 but was buried in Carroll County. I have no other connection between this line and Carroll County. I am hoping her gravesite might provide some information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Becca

Hi Betty. There are a bunch of Armacosts in the Carroll Co Cem Books. I could send you copies of the pages if you'd like. Maybe you could find out who is buried with who and figure out some relationships that way, even if you cannot find Elizabeth and parents. I am seeking the parents of Elizabeth Armacost. She was the wife of William D. Hoffman of Hoffmansville, MD. They were married in Carroll Co. about 1851. The 1850 census has a Joseph and Catharine Armacost with an oldest daughter named Elizabeth (18). However, don't want to make assumptions since there is more than one Armacost family in the census. I had looked at the other census info through Heritage Quest Census Online, which is a free research recource through my local library, otherwise, you would had to subscribe to it and it costs $$$ Check with your local library and see if they have it available to their patrons. All you need to use it here, at home, is a Carroll County library card and/or a Carroll County Internet account. You should also be able in go into your local library and use their computers to excess it. You will need to made a query on the Cecil County, Md. About Philip Lawyer. I checked for dates on the Philip Lawyers. Philip Lawyer b. 1805 Pa was in the 1850 census in Cumberland Co. Pa. Ch. living with him at that time were Henry 4, Sarah Jane 11, Adam 1, and John 10. Philips father, Philip b. 1772 Pa was living with them. The elderly gentleman was a decendant of Henrys. I could put you in contact with this man but he is very elderly and lately has leaned toward wishful thinking than facts. On ancestry there are other people that have the information on this family line that could probably give you more information. Also in checking that I found there are other people that have done research on your line. Let me know if you would still like to get in touch with this gentleman. Barb Smith
I did some research for an elderly gentleman that was a decendant of Philip Lawyer of Cumberland Co, Pa. Philip was b. in PA and his father was Philip and he was also born in PA. I have turned all the information I found over to the gentleman and don't have it here so I can't tell you. In doing the research I had come across the Lawyer in York Co. If you do not have Ancestry I will get this information for you if you are interested. Barb Smith
I should have included that the LAWYER family was also in what became Carroll county, Maryland. They are seen in the records of the Jerusalem Church as well as St. Mary's in Silver Run and up at Sherman's (St. David's) in West Manheim Township, York county, Pennsylvania. Casper and his wife are buried at Jerusalem Church cemetery as is Philip's wife. No record of Philip's burial place or date has been found. I am looking to correspond with anyone who may have either LAWYER or FISHER folks in their data. No piece of information too small. George Fisher (ca1731-1797) was from the part of Baltimore county that eventually became Carroll County. Several of his children were baptized at the Zion Church in Manchester and he is buried at the Jerusalem Church cemetery. I have not located baptismal records for several of his 11 surviving children named in his will. The original LAWYER immigrant may have been Martin Lawyer who settled in Harford county, Maryland, but this is not known for certain. I appear to be descended from two of his sons, Casper and Philip, who married FISHER sisters. Have found a good deal of information on Casper, but am struggling with Philip, who appears to have died intestate before 1824. I have also not been able to find any estate papers for him. Lawyer may also be spelled LAWER or LOYER. There is a record of a land transaction between Casper Lawyer and Philip's widow and surving children involving a land tract named "New Switzerland". Any bits of information or suggestions most welcome. Vanessa

Hi Jacqui, Monrovia is in Frederick County, Md. For a future resource, on the Rootsweb Home page there is a search engine called US Town and you just put in the name of the town and State, if you known that and it will come up with the County or Counties it is in with the highlighted links to that County GenWeb site. http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi I checked the "Marriage Licenses of Frederick County, Md, 1841-1865, by Margaret E. Myers" and they were not listed in there so they must had gotten married in 1866 or after. Good Luck in your research, Sue Bundy

Can someone please tell me where Monrovia is/was? I need to know what county it may have been in so I can check on a marriage license for my great aunt, Annie R. RIGHTER to William C. BELLISON. I would think it would be about 1862 to 1866 (+ -). Thank you, Jacqui
