It is family lore that he was a school teacher, Keeper of Wills for the state of Maryland, and a candidate for state governor until his death on August 23, 1855 in Caroline County. He was married to Elizabeth Martin in Talbot Co, MD on February 6, 1838. They had seven children, Gulielma, Henry, William, Belle, Gertrude, Orlanda, and Emily.
