Yes, it burned to the ground the very night before it was to reopen. The balls of fire from the Ammonia tanks could be seen as far away as Cambridge in Dorchester Co. (About 35 miles). Every fire department in the area was attendant. For years one could visit and see the steel I-beams melted and sagging from the extreme heat of that burn. I remember hundreds of people as close as permitted standing in "awe" and disbelief as it went up in flames, and those huge blasts as the tanks exploded and sent fireballs into the night sky. From a visual standpoint it was beautiful, but behind it the hopes of many to be re-employed was dashed in that, what was never proven or solved, arson. ----- Original Message ----- From: <p.w.horner@worldnet.att.net> To: <MDCAROLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 04, 2002 10:52 PM Subject: [MDCAROLI] Re: ANYONE LIVE/EVER LIVED IN DENTON,MD??PLEASE HELP > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/iEB.2ACE/434.440 > > Message Board Post: > > There was a chicken plant by the river for many years, but was closed down in the mid 60's; the owners moved the business down south. If I remember correctly, it was due to a strike. New owners were going to reopen the plant in the mid 70's, but the plant was a victim of arson and never reopened. > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
