    3. Sandy, What a neat photo. That house looks almost identical to it's appearance now. Don't believe that the boxwoods are there now though. Helen, I have some information on Col. Arthur John Willis if you want it. His eldest daughter, Mary Virginia Harrison Willis, married my great great grandmother Todd's brother, Benjamin Gootee Stevens. Col. Willis was the son of Short Adam Willis, of "Rosedale" and Mary (Rich) Stevens Griffith, widow of Levin Stevens and Able Griffith. Short A. Willis, he wife and several family members are buried on their farm between Harmony and Bethlehem. Mary Rich was the granddaughter (I think, or possibly great granddaughter) of Peter Rich, founder of Greensboro, MD. Short A. Willis was originally from Sussex Co., DE, his father John Willis was a native of Dorchester Co., MD and his mother was Ann Short, daughter of Adam Short of Sussex Co., DE. Interesting bit of trivia here. Anna Willis Williams "the silver dollar girl" whose profile is on the old silver dollar is said to have been the granddaughter of Col. Arthur John Willis of Williston, MD. However she was actually the granddaughter of Arthur Hill Willis of Fork District, Dorchester Co., MD, who I believe was a cousin or uncle of Short Adam Willis. Any WILLIS info I come across in my research, I will be only to glad to pass on to you! :) You mentioned below that Andrew & Rebecca had 8 children. I only see 6 named & I know there is a Sarah. Is there another one? Do you think my g-grandfather Arthur John could be the son of Arthur John WILLIS? I don't care for the term illegitimate but I really can't say Arthur was born out of wedlock -- his mother Margaret was married to William MEDFORD at the time of his birth. They were separated. MEDFORD took his wife to court about 3 times but papers are missing from the court records that would name the natural father. It was my assumption, when finding the missing papers, that the natural father was someone of means & power. Henrietta WOOD did the research for me on this matter. 1. [MDCAROLI] Given name: Arthur John -- who is his father?????
    2. Hi list me again, My g-grandfather Arthur John WEBBER is the illegitimate son of Margaret E. BERRY, who m. William W. MEDFORD. Art was b. 1852 in Caroline Co. & raised by Wm & Martha (Voss) WEBBER. Hence, the surname WEBBER. Ref: "HEIRS and LEGATEES of CAROLINE COUNTY," pg. 57, by Irma HARPER. Margaret BERRY's sister, Nancy (Ann) Elizabeth m. Holiday VOSS (brother to Martha). Hence the connection to the WEBBER's. Now, who is Arthur John's natural father????? Well, I just may have been slapped in the face with the answer & did not realize it until now. Recently, a woman came to my home because she needed help in finding info on her McLAUGHLIN grandmother. While she was here, she mentioned she had a connection to the Eastern Shore of MD, (Caroline Co.). I asked about the surnames & she mention PARRIS, WILLIS & others. She also mention an Arthur John as a given name. Of course my ears perked up -- Arthur John I had not heard anyone in Caroline Co. with that given name other than my g-grandfather. I told her I would check my library & see what I could find on her Caroline Co. Families. When I just typed up the last e-mail I sent out on the CORBIN - WEBBER Family -- I took close notice the children's names. CORBIN, Garfield S., Sr., b. 1882 in Altoona, Blair Co., PA m. WEBBER, Bertha Arena, b. 10 Mar 1882, New Castle City, New Castle Co., DE. There four sons were: CORBIN, Garfield S., Jr., b. 22 Sep 1905, Chester, Dela. Co., PA. *CORBIN, Willis Edward Arthur, b. 26 Feb 1910, Chester, Dela. Co., PA, d. Feb 1911. CORBIN, Paul, M., b. 30 May 1912, Chester, Dela. Co., PA. CORBIN, Stanley Webber P., b. 9 Jul 1914, Chester, Dela. Co., PA. Bertha WEBBER, is my grandfather Edward Arthur WEBBER's sister & he was born in Henderson, Caroline Co., MD in 1886 & died in Hackspoint Beach, Earlville, Cecil Co., MD 1955. I know John Wesley is often used as given & middle names, & we know who it refers to but does anyone know if the name Arthur John has a special origination? My father was William Anthony WEBBER -- his twin was Arthur John WEBBER & their older brother was Edward Arthur WEBBER, Jr. Do you think the name of Willis Edward Arthur is a clue, to who this child's natural grandfather was? Does anyone have any knowledge of an Arthur John WILLIS b. c1830 or an Edward WILLIS? I have never found any connect to the WILLIS Family in the past 20 odd years through my Family Lines HITCH - CALLAWAY - BERRY - VOSS - FRAMPTON, etc. Has anyone else? Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

    1. Re: [MDCAROLI] Altoona, PA & the CORBIN-WEBBER Family from MD & DE
    2. Hi list, For what it is worth, it appears that the CORBIN Family from the Eastern Shore of MD & Delaware, also shows up in Altoona, Blair Co., PA. The WEBBER Line is from Caroline Co., MD & later Chester, Delaware Co., PA & also have connections to New Castle Co., DE. CORBIN, Garfield S., Sr., b. 1882 in Altoona, Blair Co., PA m. WEBBER, Bertha Arena, b. 10 Mar 1882, New Castle City, New Castle Co., DE. There children were: CORBIN, Garfield S., Jr., b. 22 Sep 1905, Chester, Dela. Co., PA. CORBIN, Willis Edward Arthur, b. 26 Feb 1910, Chester, Dela. Co., PA, d. Feb 1911. CORBIN, Paul, M., b. 30 May 1912, Chester, Dela. Co., PA. CORBIN, Stanley Webber P., b. 9 Jul 1914, Chester, Dela. Co., PA. Bertha WEBBER, is my grandfather Edward Arthur WEBBER's sister & he was born in Henderson, Caroline Co., MD in 1886 & died in Hackspoint Beach, Earlville, Cecil Co., MD 1955. I don't know if other Eastern Shore families also went to Altoona but it might interesting to look into if you have a family that disappears from the ES & you just can't find them. 3. Austin & others, These are from "The Denton Journal" of Denton, Caroline County, Maryland. 1 December 1900 Saturday The home of Mrs. Frances E. Stambaugh, in Ridgely, was the scene of a beautiful wedding on Tuesday evening last, at 8 o'clock, when the only daughter of the late Frederick B. and Mrs. Stambaugh, Miss. E. Grace, was united in marriage to Dr. J. C. Madara, a young physician of Ridgely. 11 February 1905 Saturday Mrs. Grace Madara, wife of Dr. Jacob C. Madara, and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stambaugh, died at her home in Ridgely on Wednesday morning last at half-past nine o'clock, aged thirty-two years. Erysipelas was her affliction. Her death sadden the whole community. She was a most estimable young woman and was greatly loved by many friends. Her husband and one son survive. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, Rev. E. L. Coblentz officiating. The remains were taken to Altoona, Pa., yesterday morning. I'm not related to either of these families, just some information that I had "collected." 1. [MDCAROLI] Regarding Dr. Jacob Charles Madara
    2. First, let me confirm that Ridgely is in Caroline County Maryland. There is also a Ridgely, West Virginia on the boarder of Allegeny County Maryland. Doctor Madara began practice in Ridgely in 1899 just after completing his residency at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore Maryland. A 1-page biography and photo of Dr. Madara is in the June 1912 publication of the Caroline Sun's History and Industrial Edition of The Founding of Ridgely--The Early Days of Its History. Doctor Madara was married a second time to Bertha Barry, daughter of J. Marshall Barry and Maggie nee Clark. J. Marshall Barry is my paternal great grandfather. I have been researching this side of my family tree. Amazingly coincidence! My wife and I just drove down to Maryland's eastern shore and spent yesterday in Ridgely. While having lunch in the town's only restaurant we met an elderly lifelong resident of Ridgely who went home and returned with the book on Ridgely. As of 1912, Doctor Madara had two sons: Frederick Garland and Jacob Charles, Jr. There was no mention of a wife and I presume this was after the end of his first marriage and before his marriage to Bertha. The biography also mentioned that his grandmother Eliza Fries was 88 years old and living in Pennsylvania. I would very much like to develop more information on the Madara family and would like to share further with you. You may reach me at Austin.Barry@ssa.gov or abarry6111@aol.com Austin Barry

    3. Hi Helen, It's me again, All of the Joseph Willis' below dealing with "Littleton's Friendship" and "Hab Nab at a Venture" are Joseph Willis, son of Robert & Sarah (Rumbold) Willis, my wife's ancestor. Joseph's will is the one dated 4 July 1860 and his mother Sarah's is dated 29 Sep. 1812. I don't know Valerie but she may be related, one never knows! The other Joseph Willis that was mentioned as being the son of Thomas & Sina, that branch of the Willis family lived closer to Federalsburg than did my line (John d. 1764 lived where the town of Preston is now located), The Thomas & Sina (or sometimes Sinai in the Nicholite records) Willis had the following children whose births are recorded in their records; Children of Thomas Willis & Sina (or Sinai) Milby Willis born 7th day 6th month 1768 Anne Willis born 5th day 12th month 1770 William Willis born 20th day 9th month 1771 Jesse Willis born 15th day 2nd month 1773 Joshua Willis born 15th day 12th month 1774 Thomas Willis born 28th day 10th month 1776 Milley Willis born 3rd day 2nd month 1784 The majority of this family (if not all but Thomas, the father) moved to the Carolinas. Parker P.S. Euphama the wife of Matthew Parris was an Andrew by birth. She was the daughter of James Andrew (d. 1819) and his second wife Mary Bell. See Dorchester Co., MD Dist. Acct. of Thomas Bell, brother of Mary (Bell) Andrew (Abstracts of Dorchester County, Maryland Distributions 1852-1885, by Debra Smith Moxey, pg. 18). This record give Euphama's name as "Luthana" wife of Mathew Paris but James Andrew's chancery record has no daughter named "Luthana" however he did have one named Euphama. ----- Original Message ----- From: <HMWEBBER@aol.com> To: <MDCAROLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2002 9:11 AM Subject: Re: [MDCAROLI] Joseph WILLIS & Family > Good morning Parker, > > Thank you for your response & info! :) > > I'm trying to help a woman, my the name of Valerie McLAUGHLIN, > she is looking for info on her PARRIS & WILLIS Lines from Caroline > Co., Dorchester Co., MD & Kent Co., DE. 3. Hi Helen, Richard Willis is listed as a son in John Willis' will of 1764. He is listed right after son Isaac and before son Joshua. The son Richard died intestate in 1763 (not 1764 as I had) leaving an Inventory dated 25 March 1763, adm'x Rebecca Willis, next of-kin Isaac Willis & Joshua ___ (probably Willis) (MD Inventories Lib. 81 fol. 28). Sandy Willis is the expert on the Willis family, I'm sure that she could help you more than I could. William Henry Dean, son of Charles & Mary (Ross) Dean, changed the spelling of his surname to Deen. He married Caroline "Carrie" Willis, daughter of Peter Willis, Sr. & second wife Mary Butler, of Harmony, MD. They had several children including William Brewster Deen the lawyer of Denton, MD. Parker Todd, descended from a half-sister of Carrie (Willis) Deen

Just the inforamtion that I copied down from the census. which I read off of Ancestry.com. In 1880 he lived in Talbot county with his first wife Mary, who was bed ridden and their daughter, Annie H. Apparently Mary died shortly after that and William Henry Dean then married Anna Cheezum on 12 February1882, and they lived in the Fork District, Dorchester Countyaccording to the 1900 census. And the last known resisdence was Federalsburg in Caroline County, when he died. Like I said, I know from looking him up on the census, he was always listed as Henry. To be honest this is all I know. Yes I would dearly love copies. Thank You so much Janet

    1. [MDCAROLI] Richard WILLIS, Sr & John WILLIS
    2. Hi Parker, You have, at your website: 416. Richard Willis, Sr. (d. 1764) (son) 832. John Willis (d. 1764) (father) Did both the father & son die in the same year? I looked for the Will of Richard & John WILLIS in "Maryland Calendar Of Wills," 1764-1767. I found the Will of John WILLIS on pg. 57 & 58 but could not find a Will for Richard or his name on page 58. Yet, in the index it has Richard WILLIS listed as being on pg. 58. Have they made a mistake & not put Richard's Will in the book? Or does this mean Richard was named in his father's Will, they made a mistake & forgot to add Richard's name to his father's Will or both? On the other hand, maybe they put the wrong page # in the index for Richard? I'm totally confused -- which really isn't anything new, since I have spent half my life doing genealogy research! :) It is great having nice people, like yourself, giving me feedback or else it just might come to this: Picture the headlines -- Woman Goes Out On A Limb & Jumps From Her Family TREE Down On The Eastern Shore of Maryland!!! Thanks! :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)
