Dear Helen, I have found NO connections between my Elizabeth (TULL) McCULLOUGH (b. 1811; d. 1-20-1885, Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE, her sister Mary A. TULL (b. abt. 1807) and any other TULL families. Maybe you can connect them to your Edward TULL? Mary is living with Elizabeth and her husband Jethro J. McCULLOUGH in 1860 (census report for North East, District 5, Cecil Co., MD). Mary A. is buried in the same cemetery plot as Elizabeth and Jethro in North East, MD. Hi Everyone! I was as frustrated as the rest of you with this web page, especially because I could see ONE paragraph of my great-grandmother's obituary!! Sooooo, I signed up for the quarterly membership and viola(!) I can now navigate the pages without being asked to sign in every other minute to no avail. Ok. After I get that obituary copied, how do we get even????? Helen, This is the same problem I have with a couple of "middle" names (Perry and Forman) found in my Daffin family line. I do remember as a young boy a HEARN'S POND somewhere outside of Seaford, De. when we moved there from Maryland and also some folks around with the HEARN surname. Perhaps a posting to a Kent or Sussex Co. list might also help. Below is a bit of my own CALLAWAY FAMILY History from Wm. Callaway, Sr. and Mary Morgan. My great grandmother was Margaret Wesley Callaway. I don't know if any of the info I have below helps any further, but what you posted has helped me! I was unsure of how my great grandmother descended from Peter Callaway, so thanks for posting the query! They claim at their site that 5-6 of their listed papers are free to view, Denton Journal, being one of them. I am still waiting for a response to them. Perhaps if everyone sent their technical department a quick e-mail they'll at least respond. One thing I do know is that I will cewrtainly copy as many images as I can if I have to pay for this service. I've already copied about 500 pages and to copy all 20, 000+ images would be a daunting task for me alone. The information you can get from them is priceless though, gleening much more flavor about the culture of the day than you could possibly get from official records. I also can't wait til they come out with the London Herald Times ...This has got to be one heck of a treasure trove. I would love to see both of these papers in a CD set ...what a great B-day or X-mas present that would make (for myself ")). ----- Original Message ----- From: <KarenKayeC@aol.com> To: <MDCAROLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2002 1:10 PM Subject: Re: [MDCAROLI] Denton Journal > I cannot get into the Denton Journal either. I cannot get into the Denton Journal either. I get the list of articles that would have my family name in it, but when I click on the line to view the article, I get one of three messages: (1) a notice that I need to log on (which I had already done), (2) a notice that my time had expired (even though it had been seconds from the search results to when I clicked on the article I wanted to read), or (3) a McAfee Security Alert. I used to use this site without any problems at all. Of course, at that time, I think all of the papers could be viewed for free since I never had to join as a member. But, then, I only ever tried to enter the Denton paper archive so maybe something else would have happened if I had tried to get into any of the other papers that are now available only to paying members. Did anyone else notice that on their list of free papers they have the wrong name for the Denton Journal? Granted it takes a little learning to figure it out but the images do blow up to a readable size. Don't lose patients. I will take alook at it in a few minutes, after I finish some correspondence and see if I can figure out what's going on for you guys and maybe come up with a quick lesson sheet. I have gone to the Denton Journal but for the life of me I can't get the paper into a readable form any one have any ideas?
Dear Caroline: I am not sure of any indexes that have been done on that account. There are the series of Eastern Shore Newspaper Abstracts by Irma Harper --which we carry (at least those presently still in print), but they are very bare bones abstracts. I am not sure--knowing the way newspapers were edited and published in those days--whether the information you are interested in would be in a newspaper. They lacked the "society pages" that we have today, and if it were mentioned at all, it would have just given name of bride/groom and maybe where it took place--but not much more than that. Two other places worth checking as far as newspapers of the time are the Maryland State Archives--check their website--the Special Collections section--and you may want to also check the Enoch Pratt Public Library in Baltimore (would imagine they have a website as well) who have a large collection of Maryland newspapers. Just as an added bit of information we have begun once again abstracting the wills for Caroline County and have completed a volume covering the years 1854 through 1866 ($14.00) Hope this helps a bit.--and just wanna say "Hi" to you out there on the coast and "Happy New Year." <<<Neil>>> www.familytreebookshop.com Featuring abstracts so thorough, the dead come to life ----- Original Message ----- From: "lotswife" <lotswife@whidbey.net> To: <MDCAROLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 17, 2002 6:26 PM Subject: [MDCAROLI] CAROLINE CO. The Denton Journal from roughly 1860 -1950 is completely searchable online. Just go to the Caroline County librbary page and look for the link there. Thou gh not the range you asked for originally, they do have what we call society page sections and a wealth of information you would have never guessed to look for in the first place. Much of it is fairly personal, but I have yet to find something that didn't just make me feel like I was seeing more than I could have hoped for. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Family Tree Bookshop" <neilkeddie@beast.toad.net> To: <MDCAROLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 18, 2002 2:07 PM Subject: Re: [MDCAROLI] CAROLINE CO.
