I am also researching the family of a Alexander Newton Crowder. He went to Baltimore City ca. 1860-1864 from the St. Louis, Missouri/Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois area. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois in 1832. Some of his children were Herbert G., Edward A., Frank T., Harry M., Molly, Nettie W., and Charles N. Could this Crowder be linked with your Crowder family? I am interested in knowing if there are any living descendents still in the Baltimore area.
