    3. Hi! This is my first posting (so go easy on me if I make a mistake!). I have a number of "brick walls" in Baltimore City and County, and one Baltimore family that goes back to Talbot County, which is why I'm posting to several lists. My main Baltimore line is the Thomas and Esther Rutter family. I have some material on them on my webpage at http://www.geocities.com/orbweaversweb/gen/rutter.html. I'm trying to trace back the families that tie into this line. Here's where I need help most: Robert C. Winks (1825-1911) m. Sarah Ann Marshall (1832-1861) c. Sarah B. Winks (1856-1932) m. Charles Waggaman Rutter (1857-1887), lived in Baltimore City. I don't know anything about the Winks or Marshall families, nor the names of Sarah's siblings. Talbot County line: 1. Henry Johnson ( - Before 1783) & Mary, resided Talbot Co. 1. Col.(?) Henry Johnson ( - 11 Dec 1809) & Elizabeth Maxwell (b. About 1780) daughter of John Maxwell. Resided Talbot County - White Marshes and Rich Farm. 1. William H. Johnson (About 1800 - 1 Apr 1836) & Ann Eliza Currie ( - 16 Jan 1847). Resided Talbot Co. and Baltimore City. He died in a hunting accident. 1. Aurora C. Johnson (1828 - 7 May 1899) & Philip Graybill Rutter (1826 - 18 Dec 1862). Resided Baltimore City. 1. Charles Waggaman Rutter (10 Sep 1857 - 27 Nov 1887) & Sarah B. Winks (7 Feb 1856 - 21 Oct 1932). Resided Baltimore City. 2. Henry (Harrie) Johnson Rutter (8 Jan 1854 - 23 Jan 1863) 2. Albert Johnson & Cora 3. Elizabeth Maxwell Johnson (21 Apr 1831 - 17 Sep 1905) Ann Currie is a huge question mark. The marriage notice says that she resided Baltimore City. That's all I have been able to find on her. And where does "Waggaman" come from? 1. Thomas Graybill Rutter (13 Dec 1790 - 17 Jan 1857) & Louisa Rutter (8 Aug 1802 - 7 Jan 1834) 1. Edward J. Rutter ( - 1856) & Hattie Norwood 2. Josias Rutter (Aug 1832 - Aug 1832) 3. Thomas G. Rutter (Nov 1828 - 6 Aug 1829) 4. Francis Rutter (12 Jan 1824 - 1843) & Emily M. (28 Mar 1823 - 25 May 1893) 5. Philip Graybill Rutter (1826 - 18 Dec 1862) & Aurora C. Johnson (1828 - 7 May 1899) 6. Isabella Rutter (Apr 1828 - ) The question here is, who were Louisa Rutter's parents? Thomas married, 2nd, Margaret Rutter. My cousin speculates that Louisa was the daughter of Solomon Rutter and Margarette Reidenour, but we have no proof. Nicholas Reidenour Margarette "Peggy" Reidenour (27 Jun 1769 - 1854) & Captain Solomon Rutter (16 Oct 1761 - 28 Feb 1821) Anything at all about this family would be welcome. There are lots of Reidenour/Ridenour/Reitenauer families in Pennsylvania, but I haven't been able to make a connection. Here's a family in my Kemp line (http://www.geocities.com/orbweaversweb/gen/kemp.html): 1.David Greves/Greaves (1787 - 29 Jan 1849) & Rebecca Parker (1782 - 12 Feb 1855) Flour dealer in Baltimore City - I would like to know more about the Baltimore flour dealers. He was apparently rather wealthy. 1.Isabella Greves ( - Before 1849) & Humphreys 1.Thomas Humphreys (1842 - ) 2.Mary Greves (1814 - ) & Samuel Long 3.David Greves (1815 - ) 4.Christiana Greves (1819 - ) & George Bean ( - Before 1849) 5.Elizabeth Ann Greves (1821 - 17 Mar 1903) & James N. Muir (1818 - 25 Oct 1893) 1.Elizabeth Muir (28 Jul 1841 - ) 2.John David Muir (20 May 1843 - 27 May 1926) 3.Emma Muir (20 Jun 1845 - 14 Nov 1930) & G. Robert Godman (13 Feb 1837 - ) 4.James N. Muir Jr. (10 Feb 1846 - 9 Oct 1864) 5.Elizabeth Muir (1848/1849 - ) 6.Rebecca Muir (19 Aug 1849 - 22 Mar 1855) 7.Charles Muir (17 Aug 1851 - 5 Jul 1863) 8.David Muir (1 Jul 1854 - 1 Jul 1854) 9.Isabelle Greves (Belle) Muir (1 Jul 1856 - 17 Jul 1910) & John Kersey Sears Kemp (18 Jul 1855 - 21 Aug 1919) 10.Mary Muir (26 Feb 1858 - ) 11.Robert Muir (27 Apr 1859 - ) 6.Rebecca Greves (1825 - ) 7.Maria Greves (1825 - ) & James Smith (1824 - ) 1.David Smith (1850 - ) My cousin indicated that Rebecca Parker was born in Pennsylvania. In addition, I have a history question about Baltimore City: Thomas Rutter (1732-1807) had land on Jones Falls, but he was also a merchant. I was wondering how trade at Baltimore harbor was handled at that time. Was there a public dock? Would he have owned the ships he used? What were the roads like then? He was in partnership with a Rueben Etting, but that's all I know. Does anyone know of a good, detailed, in-print book dealing with the colonial history of Baltimore and/or Maryland? I live in California, so I haven't been able to use the resources of the Maryland Historical Society, dearly as I would love to do so. I would be grateful for any help with these families, or if you are a descendant, contact me, even if you don't know that much about them. Thanks for your help, and sorry this message is so long!
