Members of my family were also involved in wooden ship building and repair at Baltimore Harbor. John Clarence Redman, my great grandfather's brother, was the senior partner of Redman & Vane Shipyard. The Hughes family still operates a modernized Vane Bros. at Canton. The Redman family got out of the business during the beginning of WWII. John Clarence Redman was the grandson of James Redman and Mary Ann Valiant. Mary Ann was the daughter of Rev. John Valiant (of Broadway M. E. Church, Baltimore City) and Catherine Riley. James Redman and Mary Ann Valiant had many children; their daughter Margaret Elizabeth Redman married Samuel Maccubbin Valiant. I believe that Samuel was the son of James Barnwell Valiant. You may already know that a man named Joseph Brumley (now deceased) has written a book on the Valiant family.
