He was born April 21, 1838 in Maryland. He died March 10, 1913 in Camden, NJ. He fought in the Civil War in the 1st Inf. Reg, MD. and his service record lists his name as McMechen, McMackin and McMacken. He married Mary Hayes of Phila., Pa. They had at least 3 children: Margaretta Virginia born Aug. 10, 1874 and she married Charles Moore, Harry F. Mackin, and Thomas H. Mackin.
