We know that Berhardina (Johannes and Catherines daughter) was born in Maryland because of the censuses and her death certificate. Johannes did arrive in Baltimore so I was hoping to find some information but then I read about the fire. I am guessing the family stayed in that general area for the years before we find them in the 1860 ILLINOIS census. Your post has given me hope... Thanks so much!
