My grandfather William J.Lenz was born in Baltimore,1861,and died in Augusta,Ga.in 1919. His death certificate states that his father was John Lenz, born in Germany. Relatives say that the Lenz who came over from Germany was Johanns. Perhaps John is an adaptation of the name Johanns.
