Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/2817 Surname: Valiant, Riley, Redman ------------------------- Delbert, I' d be glad to share with you what I know about the Valiants. I have copied some scattered info about the Baltimore City branch of Valiants. The Booz Bros. Shipyard would have been near Redman & Vane Shipyard at Baltimore Harbor. They would have known each other and were likely linked through Valiant relations. Have you ever seen a copy of "This Was Chesapeake Bay" by Rob't Burgess? The Valiant family spread out from Talbot Co., MD. There is a family cemetery at Ferry Neck in Talbot. I have no Valiant pictures but I have gathered some info, data, and a few contacts. By the way, the director of the St. Michaels MD Maritime Museum is named John Valiant. regards, Matt Redman

Posted on: BaltimoreCity County Md. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/2813 Surname: Valiant, Riley, Redman ------------------------- Delbert, An interesting query on the Booz and Valiant family. Members of my family were also involved in wooden ship building and repair at Baltimore Harbor. John Clarence Redman, my great grandfather's brother, was the senior partner of Redman & Vane Shipyard. The Hughes family still operates a modernized Vane Bros. at Canton. The Redman family got out of the business during the beginning of WWII. John Clarence Redman was the grandson of James Redman and Mary Ann Valiant. Mary Ann was the daughter of Rev. John Valiant (of Broadway M. E. Church, Baltimore City) and Catherine Riley. James Redman and Mary Ann Valiant had many children; their daughter Margaret Elizabeth Redman married Samuel Maccubbin Valiant. I believe that Samuel was the son of James Barnwell Valiant. You may already know that a man named Joseph Brumley (now deceased) has written a book on the Valiant family.
Has anybody on this list ever heard of an old apt/townhouse project named Badger Village? I believe we may have lived there in the early 1950's. Thanks, Karen

Posted on: BaltimoreCity County Md. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/2803 Surname: ROWLES, RAWLES, RAWLS, HEADLEY, HEADLY, RUSH ------------------------- I'm researching the ROWLES/RAWLES family of Baltimore. Ive seen several Rowles family group records for the Baltimore, such as the one at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=derwood&id=I6594 My g.g.g.grandfather, John William Rawles (or Rowles or Rawls--records vary) was born in Baltimore County on 17 or 18 March, 1755. According to family records, he married a Sarah. (Her family name not recorded.) It is highly probable that he married a Sarah "Sally" Headley (or Headly--records vary) in Harrison County, Kentucky on Oct 1 1796. (From: Kentucky marriage records.) They had nine children. The name Headly was used as a middle name in the next Rawles generation, so I'm 90% sure that this Sarah Headly was indeed his wife. But there is of course the outside chance that Sarah had a different family name. One clue might be the given names used in the next generation: David, Rebecca, Jane, Sarah, Joseph, John, James, Magdalena, and Mary. In 1801 John Rawles/Rowles became an "entryman" in the Northwest Territory in the area that later became Pickaway county, Ohio. His partner in the land buying venture was a John Rush. Unfortunately I don't have any information on earlier generations. Parenthetically, I should mention that an Elijah (or Elisha) Rawles/Rowles (birthdate unknown) married a Frances Headley/Headly in Harrison County, Kentucky on Sep. 1, 1795. They also had nine children. (Sally, James John, Elizabeth, Frances, Nancy, Eliza, Mary Ann, and Mariah.) I suspect that John and Elijah were either brothers or cousins, and that Sarah and Frances were either sisters or cousins. Do you have any information that could confirm or deny this? Or do you know whom I might ask? Many Thanks in Advance! his x mark James Wesley Rawles < c/o 47000 Warm Springs Blvd. #257 Fremont, Calif. 94539 USA rawles@usa.net phone: (510) 668-1776 Currently researching: Barnard, Biffle, Bilderback, Birthistle, Creveling, Crow, Fischer, Gray, Grimsrud, Hampton, Headley, Henckel, Holloway, Hvesser, Irwine, Kiesewetter, Kinsella, McAbee, Oilar, Parrot, Pitcher, Rawles/Rowles/Rawls, Shirk, Sproule, Wallach, & Weaver
Posted on: BaltimoreCity County Md. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/2802 Surname: WILSON, HORNER ------------------------- I am looking for information on Thomas WILSON-sometimes the word General precedes his name-who was married to Hester HORNER and they had a daughter named Margaret. I believe that they lived in the Baltimore City County of Maryland area before moving to Fayette Co., PA where Margaret married James MILLER of Fayette Co., PA before moving to Columbus, Franklin Co., OH in the mid 1800's. Supposedly when she died in the 1860's, she was in the process of probating a will in which she had inheirited a large portion of land on which the city of Baltimore is located but after her death this claim was never followed up on by her husband. Any help in finding any information concerning this family would be appreciated as I have been pursuing this for 15 years and cannot seem to break through the wall. The possible surname of TAES(?) appears on the backside of Margaret's tombstone located in Columbus, OH.

Posted on: BaltimoreCity County Md. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/2800 Surname: COLLINS, O'MAHONY, MAHONY, O'SULLIVAN, SULLIVAN ------------------------- I am trying to determine where in Co Cork (presumed) HANORA O'MAHONY (also called by the patrinomic MEIG or MEAG in baptism records for her children) was married to Jeremiah COLLINS and who she is from! They are not married in the parish of Rosscarbery, Co Cork, where all their (known) children are baptised. The majority of them are listed with the Cahirmore address, while the earliest (known) baptism in 1816 is listed in the townland of Derry, part of the parish of Rosscarbery. Children include: Catherine, Mary, Dennis, Ellen and Jeremiah. Sponsor names include Malony, Roe, Hurley, Hart, Downey, Hartnet, and Sheehee. The mother, Hanora OMahony Collins, emigrated with many of her children to Baltimore MD during the famine. Youngest son, Jeremiah, married JOANNA SULLIVAN in 1860 while other sibs and/or uncles married O'SULLIVAN women around the same time. Does this ring any bells? ded_rellys@pressroom.com
