Posted on: BaltimoreCity County Md. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/2873 Surname: SMITH ------------------------- Hello Robert. I am not sure if this information will help you or not. My mother's name is Agnes (maiden surname was Smith). She was born in Baltimore City to William and Mary Smith in October, 1937. At the age of four, her mother abandoned her with an elderly couple who took in foster children in Ellicott City, Maryland. My mother knows she had a sister who was about twelve years old at the time that she was abandoned, but she has no idea what ever happened to her. Also, according to my mother's foster mother, William Smith was an alcoholic who beat her sister with a razor strap, and this was the reason her mother left her with the elderly couple in Ellicott City, to keep her from the same fate. Anyway, my mother would desperately like to know what happened to her mother, father and any possible siblings.

Try Peabody Conservatory. Possibly the laying out of the body and funeral began at either the home of the Peabody's or what is not the Peabody Conservatory. There is listed "Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University". It is a musical school. Public Relations/Peabody News..410-659-8163. You might try them first, but also the Maryland Historical Society. Death's at that time were most often handled out of the home, even when a mortician was involved. I've reviewed mortician records. Hope this is helpful. Robin J.
