    1. [MDBALT] Rimby/Mattingly
    2. Hi, I'm new to this list.  I am researching the surname Rimby.  I have a civil war pension index for my great great aunt's husband, Jacob Rimby, who apparently died in the civil war.  According to the book "History and Roster of Maryland Volunteers, War of 1861-5" the 4th Regiment of Infantry Maryland Volunteers was organized in Baltimore during July and August 1862.  They were assigned to the Maryland Brigade of Infantry. Jacob Rimby enlisted 15 Aug 1862 and was a 1st Sergeant in Company F, then a 1st Lieutenant in Company D and died 31 Aug 1864.  He was married to my great grandfather's sister, Ann Elizabeth Mattingly Rimby.  I'm looking for any information anyone would have on either of these folks that could help me along my journey! Thanks so very much! Best, Elizabeth Culhane Fairport, New York

    3. Posted on: BaltimoreCity County Md. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/3019 Surname: SCHAFFER, SHAFFER ------------------------- Hi Jane -thanks so much for responding. I can give you what I have on my Schaffer line - no Jacob yet-but I do go back a bit further. And yes, it has finally sunken in that Shaffer/Shaffer may very well indeed be the way they spelled it back then. They appear to have all been in NYC. Here Goes: George Schaffer b. 1790's NY, d. unknown married Parnella Nichols (b. 1799, d. 1883 NY) Known Children (but there are others): Christian W. b. 1821, d. 1901 (married Eliz. Dean) VA William b. 1826, d. 1905 NY (married Rachel Patten) Eliza Somers b. 1834, d. 1904 NY (married Frederick King I know there were quite a few more children of George and Parnella but cannot pinpoint them yet. Have a John Legrand Schaffer (b. 1844 MD, d. NY 1890) but I have yet to find George and Parnella in MD. John was a lawyer/physician and Christian was a broker so they seemed to be quite prominent. Parnella might very well also have had a Jacob but that name has not shown itself in the younger generations yet (George, John, Samuel, William, Christian appear to be the older male names thus far). I also know some of my Schaffers were in NJ. I have more on Eliza, my gg grandmother, but simply cannot find her father, George Schaffer, or John Legrand Schaffer. Keep me posted if any of this sounds familiar and thanks again. Linda -NYC

Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/3011 Surname: Duncan, Brashcar, McCoy, Austin ------------------------- Emma Duncan married Frank Brashcar (or at least they had two children together one who lived and one who died)on April 21-28? 1870 William Leonard ? Duncan (Brashcar) was born not sure if his legal name was ever Brashcar or not. The story goes that Emma may or may not have legally wed Brashcar (some say Debasire but William Leonard Duncan's death cert says Brashcar) then he dissapeard shortly there after. Emma then married her first cousin John Alexander Duncan and William Leonard Duncan was legally adopeted by John. Emma and John never had any children together (thank goodness). Emma was born July 11 1850 in Baltimore as well as Brashcar and William Leonard. I have been told by my grandmother (now deseased) that the family (Duncans) had a large house on Carney Road with subway tracks that ran down it. This farm house was owned by Peter Duncan it was Yellow and white. There was a family cemetary as well that was never to be touched even if the land was sold. I do not know what Emmas fathers name was but she had a brother James and her mother was Cornelia McCoy. Would love to know how to find and futher information on Emma and family as I understand it no records before 1875 exsist in Maryland And I have not Idea what church they would have been affiliated with. Thanks Robbin

Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/3010 Surname: Schaffer, Dinsmore, Suman, Appel, Fischer, Franz ------------------------- My husband's family is Schaffer. His great-grandfather was Jacob R. Schaffer born in 1843 place unknown except some census records say PA. His death certificate list Baltimore as his birthplace but his parents names are not listed yet the informant was his son. I have found that he was married in Carroll County, Maryland to a Julia Yeagle who was born in Baltimore according to the records we have. Why there? Why no parents known? My father-in-law just told me that his father probably didn't know either. Remember to look at the spelling Shaffer before 1900. That is how it is mostly found up til then. By-the-way Jacob lived until 1933. If I find more, I will let you know. Please keep me informed too.

Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Md/BaltimoreCity/3008 Surname: Thursby, McNarmara, Cullison, Kennard, White ------------------------- Richard Kennard who was born about 1798 place unknown. He was married to Catherine White in 1828 in Baltimore, MD. He died April 28, 1872 in Baltimore MD and is buried in Baltimore Cemetery. >From what I have been able to piece together, he had 4 daughters, Sarah Ann, Chatherine P., Henrietta, and Isabella. I don't know what the "P" stands for but Ann Davis was Catherine White's mother's name. The name Parrish really rings a bell but I will need to look through my documents. I do so much genealogical research for my entire family and my husband's family that it is sometimes hard to keep it straight. I have a Nellie Parrish born around 1885 whose father is listed as M.A.Parrish only. Nellie married into my Stinchecum branch. I have included a website for Kennard's and other related families. It is not mine. PJ Peter's creation. There is a forum section where you can ask questions. She has also done research on Penn. Kennard families. The website is listed below.
