Fulton Ave. He was a mailman who had his own milk truck. The family were Lutherans. According to the same death record his parents were given as Charles F. & Margaret. I had hoped to find their family group on the L.D.S. 1880 Census Data Base; but there is something wrong with their source material.

I am sure it was some kind of store/hotel. My mother-in-law could remember more about the family, but she has no interest in genealogy. And she still lives in Baltimore Co. MD on Liberty Street. Were you the one who called me on the phone about 8 years ago from FL ? I really have no further information about Anna Maria (Herr) Desch. If "we" could figure out where she is buried I would be willing to go to Baltimore, MD and find it. And I just have a listing of the names of their other children, really no dates, locations or who they married. If the records for whatever Catholic Church in Baltimore City, MD they were members-- have been filmed it would be easier for me to order the records through L.D.S. library here in Fairfax, VA and then find the church they attended. I have found the family on the 1850 census, did you get the birth years for additional childen: Catherine & George from the later census ? If so what wards were they living in at each census.

Surnames: Desch, Claus, Herr Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/3295.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I have not seen the LDS 1880 US Census CD so I can't help you there. Regarding John Joseph Desch and his siblings. I show three children of John Michael Desch and his wife Mary E. (surname unknown): John Joseph, Catherine (b abt 1852), and George (b abt 1864). I do have Gertrude Rose Desch having married Lloyd Bunting but I only have one child of their union - Lloyd Bunting. I assume there were more children. I do not have the wards of the Desch clan members that stayed in Baltimore. By 1880 my ancestor, Joseph G. Desch (son of Phillip and Anna Marie Herr Desch) had moved to Columbia, PA and both Phillip and Anna Marie were deceased. Phillip died in Weissenburg, Germany on a visit to the old country and Anna Marie died in Baltimore around 1875. Do you have any further info on the dates for Anna Marie? I can tell you that John Joseph Desch was running the Desch Hotel in Baltimore at some point but I'm not sure if it was 1880 or after. I'm told the Desch Hotel was in the downtown area of present-day Baltimore in proximity to the AAA office if that means anything to you.

Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/3295.1.1 Message Board Post: Yes, Joseph Joseph Desch was born 19 May 1850 Baltimore, MD, died 28 Nov 1895 Baltimore City, MD, buried 2 Dec 1895 New Cathedral Cemetery, Balt. MD. I have visited his grave site along with his wife who he married 29 Aug 1876 in Columbia, PA to Elizabeth Claus. We have visited the church where they were married. I have the death records for both of them. I have the same birth dates for their children. My husband's grandmother was Gertrude Rose Desch. I have a photo of him (J.J. Desch) and in a tin type picture of him with two other men, it is believe they were his brothers. That's one question I wanted the census to answer. John Joseph Desch's father was John Michael Desch born 1822 Frammersback, Bavaria, Germany, wife on census Mary E. born 1829 Germany. I do not have her maiden name or where & when they were married. I did find this couple and one child on the 1850 Baltimore City, MD census. His parents were: Philip Desch & Marianna Herr. I have not tried to trace my husband's family in Germany. I would welcome any additional information you are willing to give me. However, my question still remains-- Has anyone looking at the new L.D.S. 1880 US census been able to find their Baltimore City, MD in this data base ? I find it very odd indeed I can't find my husband's four families in this computer bank. I am absolutely positive they were living in Baltimore Co. or Baltimore City, MD. What I had hoped that this computer bank would have given me the various wards my husband's family can be found on the 1880 census. Do you know the ward that these Desch families were living in 1880 ? I think there is something wrong with the new L.D.S. 1880 Census Program. I wish someone would address this question directly.

    1. [MDBALT] Alcaeus Hooper (1859 - 1938)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hooper, Gees, White, Rasin, Gorman Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/3311 Message Board Post: New York Times, Saturday, July 2, 1938 p. 13 Ex-Mayor Hooper of Baltimore, 79 City’s Executive for Stormy 2-year Term in 1890’s is Dead at His Home There Won on a Reform Ticket Led in Health Department and School Improvements – Also Served as an Alderman Special to The New York Times Baltimore, July 1 – Alcaeus Hooper, Mayor of Baltimore in the late Eighteen Nineties, died early this morning in his home here at the age of 79. He had retired from public life more than twenty years ago and for several years had been in failing health. He continued to take daily automobile rides until about ten days ago. The campaign in which Mr. Hooper was elected Mayor on the Republican ticket in 1895 was one of the stormiest in the city’s history. It was in the days when the old Democratic political organization with I. Freeman Rasin at hits head, was most powerful. Mr. Hooper, the son of William E. Hooper, cotton duck manufacturer, had gone into his father’s business instead of going to college. He was a member of the School Board in 1888, and in 1893 he was elected to the first branch of the City Council, that body being formed of two chambers in those days. In the following year he was made president of that branch. Won in Turbulent Campaign A little more than five feet in height, he was fiery of temperament and vigorous in action. The fortunes of both Senator Arthur P. Gorman and Mr. Rasin were involved in the campaign in which Mr. Hooper ran for Mayor. The old Reform League entered the contest on the side of Mr. Hooper, and prominent men of the city undertook to become watchers at the polls and to prevent strong-arm tactics. This fighting Mayor-elect was the most talked-of man in Baltimore. He was in a fight with the City Council almost as soon as he took office. City Councilmen, members of his own party, refused to confirm his appointments. The Mayor refused to confirm the Council appointees. He took the case to court and finally to the Court of Appeals, where he won. He was attending a lecture at the Peabody Institute when the news that he had won was received. The decision was announced and the audience stood and applauded. Made School Improvements It was during the Hooper administration that bacteriological and chemical laboratories were established in the Health Department, a beginning of the modernizing of the department. Improvements were made in the public schools and a $1,000,000 loan for the construction for electric conduits was authorized. That was the beginning of the present city conduit system. The Mayor was not a candidate for re-election in 1897. He was appointed to the School Board by his successor, Mayor Hayes. He resigned in 1910, thus closing his public career. In the Eighteen Eighties he married Miss Florence Gees. She died in December, 1933. Surviving are one son, Hamilton Hooper, and three daughters, Mrs. Stuart White of Aurora, Ill., and the Misses Elizabeth and Florence Hooper. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon.
