I'm sure spelling deviations are widespread with German and other surnames. Charles A. Ningard died in Baltimore on July 16, 1885 at the age of 39. Annie Ningard died January 4, 1888 in Baltimore at the age of 50 according to her death certificate. She may have been a few years older. She was born in Virginia.

Their daughter, Ann Eliza Devinney (5 Jan. 1835 - Dec. 1918) married James H. League (Jan. 1833 - 14 Dec. 1916) in Baltimore, MD, 28 Feb. 1855. This James H. League enlisted in a New York regiment 30 Aug. 1861 under the alias Henry J. Royston in order to avoid being forced by his father to serve in the Confederate armed forces. He transferred from this New York regiment to the US Navy where he served from 30 Aug. 1861 until honorably discharged, 9 Nov. 1862. The children of James H. League and Ann Eliza Devinney were Marian (1 Mar. 1858 -?), Carrie (5 Mar. 1864 -?) and Olivia May (6 Feb. 1867 - 1963) who married in Baltimore (10 Apr. 1888) Grason Ray (13 June 1866 - 28 Oct. 1942). By all accounts, Olivia's mother Ann Devinney and grandmother Eliza Thornton maintained that Eliza Thornton was a great niece of Honorable Mat! thew Thornton, last signer of the US Declaration of Independence. My sister, who has actually done the vast majority of the research on this found, regrettably, that the IGI microfilm that has a marriage license for a James Devinney and Eliza Thornton married in Baltimore does not give any other information. We would both appreciate any further information that anyone might have.

I'm wondering if anyone has done research into the Hartman families that lived in Baltimore in the 1850's, 60's and 70's that may reveal any details about either John Hartman. The two details that I have about the younger John Hartman are: 1. He was baptized in Baltimore at St. Michael's Catholic Church in 1879 2. and he was married to Frances Gasser in Baltimore at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in 1909.
