Surnames: Clemsen/Corson/ Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/3558.1.1 Message Board Post: Kathy Thank you for the information from the 1864 directory. I have received some info on Richard Clemsen's ancestors, through another list, from a "4th cousin." I know his parents were William Clemsen and Elizabeth Auld. I have also learned that Francis Corson's parents were Henry Corson and Wilhelmina (?). I have not had any response from any direct descendants of Richard and Francis Clemsen and am still hopeful that of their 10 children there is someone other than I researching the family.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AFB.2ACI/3556.1.1 Message Board Post: Yes, thanks. I am familiar with that site and with all those entries. I have since found that Caroline died in 1849, probably before Chatham (her death notice in the Sun, lists her as wife of Chatham). Anne was living with the Sherwoods in the 1850 census of the 4th Ward, close to an Isaac Fowler, occupation Clerk- presumably in Sherwood's store? James apparently was sent to live with the Wilsons in Phoenix, in northern Baltimore County. I don't know how all these people wer connected, but I strongly suspect that the common element involved the Methodist Church. Thanks again. GWW

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/3556.1 Message Board Post: GWW- don't know if you ever got any answers re: this posting, but have you looked at the 1864 City Directory? There is a John Hughlett listed and he is the only Hughlett there. Isaac Fowler, huckster is listed too. There are lots of John Wilsons and lots of Sherwoods- including John and John Jr. If you review the addresses, you may be able to put a branch of the family together. Also several in the same family may share an occupation. Those are listed too in most cases. Go to www.bcpl.net/~pely/1864/ Hope this helps. Kathy

    1. [MDBALT] H. H. BABCOCK (Broughams, Carriages, etc.)
    2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. Hi! My AYRES line includes a Marion Kent AYRES (Philadelphia) who married Henry Homer BABCOCK, a descendant of the founder of a fairly large and diversified company (who inherited the leadership, naturally) that had manufactured such things as pumps, then vehicles such as carriages, broughams, and eventually, in the first decade of the 20th century, a motorcar (only produced 6 years - however, they manufactured automobile bodies for others for a longer period). I noted that in a copy of the Watertown, NY advertisement, in smaller print, it mentioned a branch of the company existed in Baltimore, MD. This would have been in the later 1800's and probably into the earlier 1900's. Is anyone on this list familiar with this? Would you have any knowledge of an address, or, perhaps in a City Directory, of some of the company officers, etc., in Maryland? Thanks for any assistance you can provide... Vince Summers

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/3559.1 Message Board Post: Arlene- take a look at the Balto City 1864 Directory. It's online now at www.bcpl.net/~pely/1864/. There is an August Schmidtman listed and he is the only Schmidtman- so it should be a good lead... There are many Arthurs listed. The directory give occupation and address so if you know what neighborhood they grew up in, you may be able to make a connection.
