I took the advice of listers and requested both MD death certificates from the state archives and obituary look ups from Frostburg State Univ. Both requests results came in today's mail. Little was found as an obituary for John W. Gordon 10/12/1919. Nothing was found in the way of an obit for his wife Emily S. Gordon (nee Gill) 12/26/1928. I was indeed disappointed. As to the death certificate, there was enough info to realize that Emily S. Gordon was indeed the woman I know as Susan Gill Gordon. I believe as well that John W. Gordon was indeed her husband even though he is listed as a "widow" on the certificate. It appears that the same informant gave information. She was a Mrs. H.M. Steppe (typed out in 1929) and a Mrs. H.M. Stepple/Steffle) on the earlier 1919 (written in long hand). I am confused about one thing. Emily Susan Gill Gordon is buried at SS Peter and Paul Cem. whereas John W. Gordon is at St. Patrick's Cem. Is there an explanation for this between 1919 and 1928? I had hoped to find a family plot. Have these cemeteries been indexed? I would appreciate a look up or direction as to how to contact persons with knowledge of the cemeteries who could look records up for me. The FH for both was John C. Wolford. Might these records be somewhere? I found the Steppe family on both the 1910 and 1930 census records for Cumberland. They had a typically large family to include children: Charles W., Ralph J., Marie M., Louise E., Albert J., Clara C., Herman. Might another know of this family? I'm willing to write whomever anyone would suggest in the hopes of learning more about my Gordon/Gill family and what became of their children. I believe there were 13 offsprings and only 5 may have survived to adulthood. Thanks in advance for any help. Karen Nelson Hangsleben
