    3. In all the census, there was no date listed just a check that he was naturalized. He & his brothers were brought over to join their parents in 1850, long before Ellis Island. We had thought that since he was in the Civil War perhaps he automatically became a citzen after the war. However, that type of citzenship we were told did not happen until recent times. His brothers were naturalized in the 1870s, one in MD & other in MA. Tried both Washington County (we have that book which lists naturalizations to 1880 and Cumberland on this past Thursday. We know he held public office by 1880 and had a business in Frostburg, by 1880. This would give you a time period and make it easier to check. Also run their name thru Ellis Island if they are in the correct timeperiod. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MDALLEGA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Have you tried Castle Garden? http://www.castlegarden.org/ "CastleGarden.org offers free access to an extraordinary database of information on 10 million immigrants from 1830 through 1892, the year Ellis Island opened. Over 73 million Americans can trace their ancestors to this early immigration period." ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Ellen Chambers" <maryln61@sbcglobal.net> To: <mdallega@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2007 3:09 PM Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Naturalizations > In all the census, there was no date listed just a check that he was > naturalized. 3. Thanks Judy but they came through Baltimore in 1850 with their Grandmother Ellen nee LANE LYNCH. When I say they, I mean my husband's grandfather and his two brothers. The little boys were left in County Waterford until their parents got settled in America. By 1850, the father was a C&O canal boatman and had a little farm in Greenspring Furnace, Washington County.
