Maryland has a death index. The years for the county are 1898 or so to 1944 for the counties and 1898 to 1972 for Baltimore city. You have to search by cards which list the person, date of death, age at death (for most) and age and county. You then have to order the death certificate for 12 for a regular photo copy or 25 for a certified. Most death certificates have mother, father and wife (if married) where buried and cause of death. It is tedious because you have to search by card and date (it is alphabetized by blocks of years) The address is www.mdvitalrec.net hope you find something.
While scanning the md vital records, I noticed one thing that I hadn't noticed before. Some of the "cards" (I was looking under surname Green) have no first name, and some of the have two names. I'm assuming husband and wife. Does anyone know why this is? I also assume that if its missing a first name is because it was illegible on the original. And is it possible that the husband and wife died at the same time? Also, when I received my copy of a death certificate it had different names for my g grandparents than we thought. Anyone have ideas how to take this further to prove or disprove this?
